Selling my 4200, price help please!

I was laid off and am moving from my rural home to an apartment in the city So Sad

I'm going to be selling my '00 4200 HST with 420 loader. It only has 25 hours on it, and is in perfect shape mechanically, the only thing wrong with it is sun damage to the dash, control knobs and seat.

How much should I ask for it?

Thanks.

I'd take it to my local dealer or two and ask them to give me a price they'll give for it. That way you have a base number and can go from there. Whatever figure they'll give you is going to be wholesale. You can then advertise if for however much over that you feel is fair. I hope this helps. MachineryLink has some numbers you can compare, too. Good luck with it. I hope this helps.

Try machinerylink.com. They have a used tractor value guide. I don't know how accurate it is, but it might give you an idea of the value of yours. Sounds like yours should be near the top of the range for that tractor.

Machinerylink was an awesome resource, thanks for that link!

I have several interested buyers, but realized that I don't know exactly the details of the logistics of selling this tractor. I still owe John Deere Credit and don't have the title in hand.

Do I write out a bill of sale, accept payment, pay JD Credit, then turn the title over to the buyer when JD sends it to me?

Or can my JD dealer act as an agent for JD Credit, and the buyer make the check out to JD and me, give the check to my dealer and he gives me my part?

Brian, I'm glad the link helped. When someone actually buys and pays for your 4200, give them a bill of sale. As to your loan payoff, simply call JD Credit and request a payoff figure. Make sure you get the name of the person who gives it to you and a 'good through' date. They have to receive it by that date for the figure to be honored. When you get paid send the payoff amount to Deere Credit and they'll send you whatever paperwork is appropriate. For what it's worth, my Deere dealer told me tractors don't have titles the way cars and trucks do. If there is something like a title Deere Credit sends you then you can reassign it to your buyer and send it to him when you get it. I hope this helps.
