 JD or NH

Well I'm 4 days away from making final decision on either 29D or 4300. I recently posted the NH dealer never called but when contacting another dealer 60 miles to the south I was shocked at the difference in cooperation!!! The NH dealer dropped off a demo and has been very proactive in the dealings. I got the quote from the JD dealer and have yet to hear back from him?! I noticed a lot of JD dealers seem to be that way from the posts. I really am leaning towards the NH due to dealer response, but have heard so many good things about JD. I would like any advice or reccomendations on the pros and cons for the 2 units. Here are the specs: JD4300 and NH 29D both hydro, 4wd, R4s, loader (430 and 3108) 5' box blade, landscape rake, rotary cutter, and 50" tiller. JD $23400 and NH 21800 before tax. Any comments would really help!!

Keith, being a Kubota owner, I guess I'm not the one to answer, but given the choices you asked about . . .. I have a cousin who, last Fall, bought a TC29 for exactly the price you quoted. The difference is that he got a 62" tiller and he got a post hole digger instead of a landscape rake; otherwise same equipment. He's got 150 hours on it, nice tractor, and he's sure happy with it.

Keith... I came down to the same two tractors. I got a NH TC29D last fall, and so far have no regrets. Two things mainly decided me - at that time there was a *long* waiting time for 4000-series HST JDs, and I really liked the ergonomic features of the NH. I think the long lead time issue has eased a little, but I think NH still has everybody else beat in ergonomics (things like the telescoping 3-pt ends, swivel seat, control placement, etc). A good dealer is important... I had some minor after-delivery issues that were taken care of promptly and cheerfully. I got the TC29D, 7308 loader, and a Land-Pride 6-ft rear finish mower. Already had some other things; previously had an old Ford 8N. I think they're both good tractors, but there's my 2 cents.

Like Bird I'm a Kubota owner so maybe I'm not qualified to answer, especially since I have no NH dealers close and know little about their equipment but I'll give you my 2 cents worth anyway. The NH is less expensive and from the posts on this board it is a very good machine. The dealer is obviously interested in your business even if he is 60 miles away. I'm one of the people who bought a Kubota because of an indifferent Deere dealer and I don't think anyone would argue about the value of a good and responsive dealer. So, unless you are desperate to drive a green machine I think the sensible answer would be the NH if the dealer will continue to offer good service after the sale and you can live with hom being 60 miles away. The NH dealer that is closer may not take too kindly to servicing a machine he did not sell in the first place and if his service is bad now, it probably won't get any better in the future.
