Does your XUV bog when it's going up the hill, like maybe falling off the power band? If it is you can get yourself a triple beam balance scale and start removing weight off the flyweights in the drive clutch. Do 3 or 4 grams at a time and grind the weight off the sides of the weights equally so they all comform to each other and all weigh the same. This will allow the engine to rev higher to get the job accomplished. Remember if you do this, the engineers that designed the clutch tested it and came up with the weight/angle combination that suited the machine over the whole spectrum, so don't forget to try it on flat surfaces too as you make changes. You will have to rev the engine higher to shift the clutch out on flat road also. A heavy weight will shift the clutch at a lower rpm, a lighter weight will require more rpm to shift the clutch out. Pretty simple huh?

 JD Gator XUV 620i clutch?

it drops a good 10mph pullin' a small hill and really gets down in speed up a big hill.....it kind of feels like it has a shutter when pullin' hills...only has a 111 hours on it(had 89 hours when i bought it)....could the belt be bad already?...it's an 07 and i bought it used....looks like i'm goin' to have to buy a clutch puller....i wish there was a clutch kit like for other brands...

Mine will slow down a bit going uphill, but not to that extent, it has two hundred and some hours and has did some grunt work and shows no ill effects yet. Maybe try a new belt and check the clutch adjustments before pulling clutches. The older Gators used to get dirt in the sliding part of the pulley and bind it up with symptoms like you describe. Frank.

The symptoms you describe sound like the driven clutch isn't back-shifting to let the drive clutch go into a lower gear. Check the buttons on the driven clutch and make sure they are all there. One missing will bind the clutch up, two missing will really create havoc.

Don't know what a new one is, but I can't see 1mm off causing your problem. Are there any other problems? It sounds like you may be down on power. Have you checked the plugs to see if they look the same? Maybe a compression check too? Air filter? Those FD620D motors will run on flat ground on one cylinder. Run it up a hill a couple times and check the plugs.

Well, I've got one more thought. Is the rod that goes between the transaxle and the motor in place and secure at both ends? Sometimes one or the other bolt will break off in their respective housings and the motor and transaxle will move toward each other under load which would loosen the belt. If that rod is in place, I guess it's time for a belt. I would sure like to know what it was when you do get it fixed.
