I have a Gator 4X6 which recently developed a condition where it has no power under load such as going up a hill. I raised the dump box while driving and it appears that the clutch is not expanding whne I apply the gas. When the Gator is in nuetral and I apply the gas it expands like it should? the manual says to check the fuel filter and sparkplug? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Ouch! I thought it might be a lack of torque due to plugs, fuel filter or some other inexpensive item. ....

It sounds like you don't have enough power to close the drive clutch under power. Are you sure your back plug is good? ....

Sasuga-I'm about 3 years late here but seem to be having the exact problem with my 2007 620i XUV that you described. The secondary clutch works fine when in neutral and I rev it. It also works in forward gear when I raise the rear end up on a jack and rev it. Once I actually drive it up hills though, it bogs down to a crawl. Like you, I observed it while attempting the hill and the secondary clutch doesn't appear to be expanding at all. The rpms are there, it just won't pull the hill. Dealer told me it sounded like my secondary clutch was stuck and I probably need a new one ($200.00 w/o labor). Did you ever get yours fixed or, does anyone else have an idea on this. I want to explore all avenues before I hand it over to the local JD service dept. Thanks in advance for any help. ....

Put a pair of gloves on, start your motor and see if both your exhaust pipes going into the muffler are getting hot. That's a good place to start........... ....

When at the cycle dealer, I would spray a small amount of water from a bottle on the head pipes to identify a cold cylinder. ....

Well, gloves or water, it was the right place to start. Looks like a dead rear cylinder. Thanks for the direction fellas, although it isn't much consolation, at least I can stop wondering now. Do either of you have a ballpark figure on what it's going to cost to have a dealer fix it? ....

If you have spark and NO heat, the only thing I can think of is the intake valve push rod hopped off the lifter. I doubt if you have spark. When you check the plug for spark, make sure it's arcing between the center electrode and the grounding tang on the plug when grounded to the motor. Bad plugs will arc between the tang and the motor. ....

No spark at all could be, coil, trigger, ignitor, wires and/or plug connections to these. I would start with the coil. ....

I switched the coils (electical w/plug wires attached) and the rear cylinder is now firing. Do I assume that is the problem or is there something else I should check beyond that point?

Well, the only other thing you moved were the two wires going in and the plug wire. I guess you could try the bad coil on the front cylinder, if it doesn't fire on the front one, I think you are pretty safe saying it's bad. ....

When I switched them out, I hooked up both coils (2 small wires on each) but didn't connect the alleged bad one (now on front cylinder) to the plug and it started off the rear cylinder alone. After attaching the front plug wire to the plug and taking the rear off the plug, it wouldn't start so I assume it's bad and my problem cured? ....

You seem to be all over the forum so I’m sure you have to put up with a lot of inexperience. I am certainly no exception to the rule. I do know a little about a lot of things but it would have been difficult for me to have found this particular problem alone without needless spending and effort. I did learn from this and I sincerely thank you for your expertise and willingness to help me as well as others on this forum. ....
