Can a guy use this low sulfur diesel fuel in these tractors. This is a 2003 model. What kind of additive would be best to keep the injectors clean and lubricated? If memory serves, wasn't sulfur used to help lubricate the injectors? Thanks Mike

In most parts of the country I've been through, you can't get anything but the ULSD anymore. So it's wise to add a fuel supplement to any diesel engines manufactured before Jan 2007. There area variety available at all farms stores and truck stops, as well as most auto parts stores. I use Power Service silver container in the summer (lube + cetane boost) and the red container in the winter (lube + cetane boost + anti-gel)

I am not sure so this is really a question: I have been told the "off road" fuel is not low sulfur. No idea if that is still true or not and if it might vary from area to area.

Kenny off road is high sulfur which is a pollutant. It's a federal law that you cannot use off road in an on road vehicle which is why it is colored red--you get pulled over and they sample the fuel it's a big fine. And Laughing out loud I don't mean "fine, go ahead and use it".

Greg around here (metro Detroit) our diesel pumps have a sticker on them that says in short that "this fuel is required in diesels made after Jan 07(?). And is safe for all diesel engines". Are you saying that I should be using an additive?

I strongly recommend one, yes. And that's a federal tag, all pumps nationwide have them. But I considering "safe" to be a relative term, so all four of my pre-2007 diesels get regular servings of Power Service; white jug in the winter, silver jug the rest of the year.

But I think you'll find most "off road" diesel nowadays to be ULSD as well. The dye is added to mark the fact that it's not taxed. That's what makes it illegal to use on-road.

Memory weak here but some time back the sulfer was point of conversation I saw else where. Think the often response was with off road it really varied a lot due to the local fuel people. Those who really handled a lot of off road did have it with higher sulfer where the smaller oil dealership did just as Greg said just dying their other fuel to show no road tax paid on it.

So let me get this straight: if I don't like a person running a big rig all I need is a small bottle of the red dye and treat their tank and then watch the fines pile up? Somehow the way Jeff posted made me realized this. Sure would want me to lock my tanks.
