 AgraCat 2940 Super

Hello,
I have a business in Kansas and one of my customers has a AgraCat 2940 Super 4wd with 10 hours on it. It's never been sold. He used to be a dealer before he became disabled. Anyway....he has installed some options on it such as grill guard, spring seat, gauge upgrade and front weights. I realize that AC is bankrupt and parts can be had from Jinma as it apparently is the same as a JM254. So here is my question. I can purchase this tractor for $5,500. After some bartering on some things he needs from me I would effectively pay about $4,000. Is that a great deal? A good deal? or should I stay away from it. I have 12 acres and horses and need a tractor to do some light dirt work, mowing etc. etc.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Edwin

I personally wouldn't have done business with AgraCat on a bet, but I did have a pair of JM254s from another retailer around the time AgraCat was still in business. I paid $5600 at the time, but the "upgrades" of which you speak were included in that price. That would suggest that particular 2940 was a barebones version. Since AgraCat is tango uniform for several years now, I'm guessing the tractor isn't likely newer than a 1999-2000 model.

Especially since you're not mentioned anything about warranty at the asking price, I'd personally would start with a half price offer (from original retail): $2800.

There would be no warranty since AC is bankrupt and his sales/service business is now closed. He purchased the tractor from AC in August of 2002 as he still has the receipt. I have spoken with several dealers in the area and a new tractor comparable to this one is $8,000 or more. I personally am more concerned with the overall reliability and performance. Of course the local Kubota, New Holland, John Deere dealers all say the AgraCat, Jinma and the like are junk. I wouls expect that from someone who is trying to sell me a tractor for 12 to $15,000.
Thanks for the reply....I really appreciate the input.
Hoping to hear more!
Edwin

Edwin, if you can get that tractor for about $ 4,000.00 cash after your bartering I think that would be a fair to good deal, these tractors are great if you don't mind turning a wrench every now and then, parts are no problem we have a large supply as well as a few other larger dealers. They are simple little machines that will work hard for you at a reasonable price. There are several message boards with plenty of members to help you out with any questions or concerns. Good luck on your purchase

I should qualify that price figure I gave you Edwin. AgraCat themselves charged a helluva lot more than $5600 for that tractor - which is why I went to another retailer. So the $2800 I recommended you offer is based upon half of what I paid, not half of what the seller may have paid AgraCat. If memory serves, I think AgraCat's cash price for a 2940A back then was ~$7000

I have a farm pro 2425 or a Jinma. I have read alot of post where Jinma was junk. Mine digs, plows, moves dirt pulls trees and etc. I made a good deal new. 4wd, FEl, agtires,$8,995. I have had very few problems some i caused first time owner. When you get a tractor of any kind you will have to turn wrenches. Search through these post and you will see. I have 150 hrs on mine, Affordable has parts $4,000 does not seem unfair.

OK so here is another question: If I pay $4,000 for the 2940S and then another $3,000 plus for a koyker 160 loader (the loader is really the whole point of buying another tractor)then I am at 7 grand. Apparently not too far from a new tractor. I have seen Jinma 254's with loader's for as little as $7,700 on Ebay from dealers in Oklahoma and Texas. Trying not to be a pest here. Just trying to get this right the first time.
Thanks again!
Edwin

I bought new from a dealer as a whole unit. Without a warrenty, service, parts, manafacture backing and used I would have to get a very good deal with substanual savings. You now know all I know.

I think you're starting to answer your own question Edwin. But I'm a little confused by your use of "Super" and 2940"S". AgraCat sold a 2940A, a 2940T, and a 2040I. The "A" was the basic tractor - no sprung seat, basic gauges, no grill guard. Pretty sure front and rear weights should have been standard though. The T model and I model were just stepped upgrades. Based upon your description, it sounds like this is the entry level A model

Edwin, the ones you see on E-bay do not have Koyker loaders, you can put a ZL-20 chinese loader on for less. The Koyker is the way to go.$ 7,000.00 for a tractor with a good loader is a good buy, about a 3,000 saving off of retail. These tractors have not changed much other than cosmetics, shuttle shift,1-piece gauges, rounded fiberglass fenders, 1-piece flip up hoods. For what you are going to be using the tractor for it should serve you well.We have a hard time keeping them in stock at the retail price, and used ones or trade in's don't last but a few weeks at best.
