 Broken belts

I have a Land Pride FDR 1548 mower. I mow about 3 acres of grass around my house. I have been having the belts come apart about every 3 mowings, approx. 12 hrs. There doesn't appear to be any damaged pulleys. Ikeep the rpms as specified by the manual. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Sounds like a bent pulley housing. Did you hit any hard objects? Rock stumps ect.

Check the mower pulley belt grooves for pieces of sticks or other debry that may be stuck inside the one or more of the pulley belt groove. My Deere F525 had a similar problem and was eating $37 belts. Also check the belt tension. Too much flapping around due to a bad idler tensioner spring or as already mentioned, a bent or misaligned pulley.

Also check your pulleys and spindles for ease of turning.

If what the others have mentioned doesn't solve the problem consider if the belt is running through sharp bends. I have a belt driven rear tiller on one of my lawn tractors that was eating up belts because of the sharp bends. The cords were breaking! I ended up using a belt with Kevlar cords that solved the problem. These belts are blue in color and are only about another $5.00 more than standard. Also make sure you are using the correct cross-section size.
