 B7100 Rear Mount Finish Mower

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a new rear mount finish mower for my '77 B7100 (16 crank hp, 13 rear pto hp). Going to go with woods again (have a rm 48 that has done its job), but am not sure which size to go with. I originally wanted to go with the PRD line but feel its too heavy for the old 7100, and since my yard is on a hill it may push the tractor around. So instead I'm going to go with the Heritage line. Now I'm torn between which mower to go with. Either the RDC 54, or the RD60. The 54 is lighter and rated within the tractors power range, but the 60 has better blade speeds (2,000 fpm more) but is 100 lbs more and rated for tractors with more power. Anyway I'm due for a new mower but not sure which would be better suited for the tractor.

Thanks

You could use either, and it will be a washout because you can go faster with the smaller one. Factors to help decide:

-can the lift raise the heavier one? -are there ground undulations that the smaller would follow better? -could there be a traction problem with the heavier one? -is there a difference in cost and availability of the replaceable bits (blades, belts)? -is one better designed to be stood upright for servicing and storage? -does one have a better range of height adjustments?

Auer--standing a mower upright--whose does that? I've never seen one do that. I just raise the 3pt to work on mine.

EW; Make your life easier and far safer. Just pick up a rear mount or midmount mower wirh a chain on the loader bucket, flip it over on it's back and work in comfort.

Yes its hard to say. Both models are pretty much identical, but the differences are: The 60" has 2000 fpm more blade speed (I'd use high suction blades on the 54 to offset this), the 60" has 1/2" more blade overlap, the 60" is 8 gauge as opposed to 10 gauge, but the 60" weighs more. My yard is 2.5 acres with id say 1/3 of it being hill, is flat, just has a good slop if you get what I mean (no funny twists or bumps). The PTO can lift this and more, and I'd offset the weight with some suitcase weights on the front. As for speed I normally cut in 5th, and use 4th if the grass is heavy or wet, but would probably just use 4th all the time with the 60".

As for everything else costs and maintenance seem to be the same (same mower just ones a little thicker gauge deck and bigger). I just don't want to overwork my 7100 and have it get pushed around by something that's too heavy (why i'm not going with the PRD lines). But at the same time I dont want to go with something too small because I know the second run of the 7100's you could get a 60" mid mount mower. So its a tossup and cant decide.
