 Gear Box Oil

As a first time owner of a finish mower, I just don't know. Which plug to you open to check the gear box oil level, the top or the side? I assume the side. Is that correct?

Agear box should only be filled 1/2 full, so the side plug is the right gauge hole. If the gear box is filled full ,the oil can blow the seals . Use 80/90 gear oil.

David, like Len said, you check it at the side. If you take out both plugs and put oil in the top until it comes out the side, you've got the right level.
