 oil expiration date

Have any of you heard of oil going bad? Have a guy throwing away oil still in sealedoil bottles because it is bad due to age. These are 2- 3 years old. I have never heard of such a thing but knew my opinion didn't matter. What have you heard? Yes I have confiscated all that I could. If nothing else, it will make good bar oil for my chainsaw.timmyb

 oil expiration date

Tim, some oil, particularly specialized 'performance' types, contain additives which will only stay stable or homogenized (mixed thoroughly) with the base oil for a set period of time, after which they are useless, or at least do not perform the way they should. This is not to say that the oil is 'garbage' it just means that for any critical application it is not what the label says it is or will do. The oil will be perfectly acceptable for general use, just treat it as if it were plain non-detergent oil. Best of luck.
