 mower belt

I own a Cub Cadet 1215. I am having problem with it throwing the belt off that comes from the clutch down to the deck. I buy new ones and it keeps throwing them. I think I have the tension pulley spring in the wrong spot. Does anyone have any ideas. I have no manual to show me where to put the spring. I am just another one of those silly dumb single women..Laughing out loud Any help appreciated.

I am not that familiar with your model. I have a 2146 with 38" cut. But if its like mine the spring that holds tension on the belt hooks into the lever that you release to take tension off the belt.I have a little over 100 hrs on mine.First belt was replaced around 80 hrs and then the second belt lasted only 20 hrs and broke again. So far this belt is still going. But when I first put it on and was burnishing in the belt it came off the pto.I found the pulley guard that is on one of the idler pulleys bent up from the pulley looked like it had to much clearance between the belt and was letting the belt come up off the pulley when the pto was engaged.I just took it off and bent it down were it rides closer to the pulley. So far it has not come off.If yours is like mine you have to twist the belt 1/4 turn when it comes off the pto pulley where it goes to the idler pulleys.Hope I did not confuse you more. You need to get the manuals for that mower and maybe a shop manual that goes in to more detail.

Lu Anne, in my experience the most common reason for a belt coming off is mis-alignment of the pulleys.

If you have hit something and bent the deck then the spindle could be leaned back and this would result in the belt coming off as soon as load is applied.

It could also be that the tensioner is either not on right, or it is just not holding tight enough.

It's also been my experience that the 'silly single women' are the smart ones, not the dumb ones.....

Best of luck.

The tensioner pully is the biggest culprit on these units as well as many thes built with this design.
