7260 ring gear and front shaft

I am looking for a front drive ring gear and the short drive shaft from the trans to the front drive on a 7260 Cub
Cadet. My local dealer wants more for these parts than i paid for my first Ford tractor.

I'm afraid I have no real help here other than to look for a parted out 7260. Even then it's good to refer to a parts manual to make sure that an odd model or year that had a production change didn't affect the particular parts.

I do have a curiosity here since I have an aging Ford. Maybe somebody knows details. I imagine that Cub likely bought the ring gear from a gear manufacturer rather than manufactured it themselves. If that's the case, the same gear may be used in all sorts of applications and maybe not even on tractors. Find another application that uses the gear and maybe the prices and availability would be better. I don't know of any organized way for an individual to do that though, but I believe that is pretty much what NAPA does for auto parts.

They are expensive at 528 for the set. But whats the tractor worth without it?

You are right, but with a unit with less than 200 hours of normal use, I am supprised it should break. I thinks it is a factory default. I am working with a dealer who is talking to a factory rep. to see if they can do something. By the way I have been given a quote of over $600 for the set.

I don't know how close to a major city you are, but in the past I have on occaision had broken parts (gears & shafts included) welded back together and re-machined, in one case in particular, it was not because of cost, it was the same as a new part, but it got a machine back up & running in 2 days instead of 2 weeks or more. In a commercial operation this can amount to a BIG savings.

Best of luck.
