 front drive lockup

The front drive on my 7260 locks up when going forward. This happend all the sudden. When it did it the first time it broke the drive shaft from the transfer box to the front differential. In reverse there is a clicking sound coming from the front drive assy. I think something broke in the differential or in one of the gear drives for the front wheels. Anyone had an experience like this?

 front drive lockup

Questions more then help here. I might not be able to much more if I had the answers either.

I'm wonder what kind of tires it has and if the front/rears are a factory set. What were the tire pressures? Was the tractor on pavement of hard surface? Was the tractor doing heavy loader work when it happened? What sort of lock up--were one or both front wheels sliding on the ground? After the lock-up, in 2wd with both front wheels off the ground, did rotating one front wheel by hand cause the other one to rotate in the opposite direction?

In all this, I'm assuming that the front drive takes off a rear diff ring gear and goes into a conventional differential. The assumptions may be wrong. The reasons for asking the questions about tires, operating surface and load is trying to figure if there were high load combined with high traction conditions that exceeded the front drive's design. I'll try to get my mind around the clicking in reverse later if somebody else doesn't come up with an explanation.

I think that it is time to raise the front end with the driveshaft disconnected and spin the wheels. Yes you have something broken.

Look for the problem in the final drive (the housing next to the wheels.) Determine from where exactly the sound comes from. MOst likely it is the source from where the problem stems.
