1995 cub 2185 hydro trans fluid question

I just got a used 1995 cub 2185 with hydro trans. It seems to have a seeping trannie case, tried to tighten the bolts but all seems tight. It drips about the size of 3 inch spot overnight, was wondering what it would cost to get the leak fixed? It may be much cheaper to just put up with the drip. What kind of trans fluid can I get for this unit or do I have to go back to Cub Cadet for their hydro oil. Thanks, gary

Cub cadet has there own fluid for transmissions or if you have a local case-ih dealer you could use hytran to fill. There are any number of spots to have a leak from I wpould do a little more investigating.

1995 cub 2185 hydro trans fluid question

I've never had much luck stopping oil leaks by tightening things. Can't say I've tried it on my tractor, which hasn't leaked. However, if you do determine that the lead is around a gasket rather than a seal, there's nothing wrong with trying I guess. However, repair manuals usually provide torque specs for most bolts that should be followed. It is possible to break something by incorrect or uneven tightening.

Actually replacing gaskets or seals usually requires a lot of labour and therefore is expensive. I'd guess that most people just put up with minor leaks until tear down in the area for another repair is required. One thought though. I've heard that synthetic oils tend to leak more than petro oils. Who knows, if the tractor is running a synthetic hyd oil, changing to a petro oil might stop the leaks. That might be a thought if the tractor is near servicing hours. I might do something like that, but I don't believe I'd ever use any box-store stop-leak products in anything.
