My 7235 Cub is loses speed. The engine is strong but when in any gear I lose speed when moving forward. I changed hydro filters and fluid still doing the same. All the attachement work , Loader and PTO. Not sure what to do any advice would be helpfule.

higgst,

Your tractor starts out strong, but then begins to slow down?

It sounds to me as though you could have a partial blockage in the hydraulic pump's sump intake screen, located in your fluid reservoir.

Changing your hydraulic fluid filter was a good place to start, but I'm wondering if you checked the screen in your fluid reservoir?

It's possible that your tractor doesn't have such a thing, but most tractors do.

This is just a guess.

Joel

No mechanic...you did not mention anything about how your engine sounds when this is happening. Is it dropping on rpms giving the indication it is being over loaded or not running properly? Based upon the way I read it the engine speed is holding up when using hyd attachements and if that is so I would think the engine is not the problem.

If it is dying down only when trying to drive the tractor could it be the brakes are either set or not releasing. If the speed is holding could it be the linkage needs adjusting or a stick or something is preventing it's full travel. It can be amazing how small a twig in the right place can do this.

I had a similar problem on my 7275 some years back. The dealer flushed my hyrdraulics and replaced the filter. Guess they recommend to do this every 250 hours. The filter was getting plugged and actually collapsed from suction. It would release sometimes when the machine was stopped and do the same thing again intermittently.

I'm with Kthompson on this. I'm not very familliar with their linkage system from the pedal to the actual hydro pump inside the tractor (mechanical/electronic??), but with no restrictions in the flow of fluid to the pump that is about all that's left to go wrong. Frank.

Thanks for the reply. After changing the filters and fluid I believe as you suggested the brakes were causing the issue. I'll go through the linkage and make sure everything is loose. So far it has been running good ever since. Pulled the kids around in the snow all weekend.
