 Opinions on cutter size, 5ft vs 6ft on a 30 HP L2650

I have read most of the posts on rotary cutters and am looking for advice. I plan to purchase a five or six foot cutter for use on my Kubota L2650 w/FEL, 24 PTO HP. Owner's manual states that a 6Ft cutter is the maximum size. I was considering a 5Ft cutter, but it will cut a swath that is just slightly smaller than the rear track of the loaded R4's. No plans or need to cut brush, just field and pasture mowing & no steep hills. Anyone out there have experience with a 6Ft cutter on a similar rig? I'd like to here from you.

I was going through the same thing with my TC33D (~29 PTO HP). I have a 5ft. track, I'm glad I went with the 6ft.. You'll be glad you do too, IMHO.

Mine has 25 PTO HP and I have a 5' cutter. It could handle a 6' cutter just fine, especially for grass/weeds.

If you're just cutting grass and non-woody weeds a 6 footer should be fine. If you have thick patches of woody weeds or tough vines to cut through it may be a struggle with the 6 footer, but if you go slow you should make it.

The only other issue not yet addressed is the weight. A high end bush hog ($1800-2000)in 6 foot size will be too heavy. We put one on a Kubota L48 and so far it has broken 2 toplinks. And it is not from going fast over bumps. It gets used moderatly on pastures. You can definitly feel the weight when you pick it up. A cheapy should be no problem. I run a 7 foot bush hog squealer on my JD4300.

5 or 6 foot cutter

I think a six footer on that size tractor is
not only a little heavy, it also needs more
pto horsepower. I would get (have one) a 5 footer
If you have no rocks, you can always go faster.
Very chancy that a 6 footer would be workable.
It well may be, but I would not try it. If anything
I prefer to slightly underwork my tractors.
