Braxton, I guess it depends on what you want to know. If you go to a search engine such as http://www.google.com and search for Zetor tractors, you'll find more than you want to take the time to read. If I remember right, they've been made in Czechoslovakia for about 50 years, supposedly built some of the John Deere tractors for Deere at one time, and I know where there are several dealers for them within a couple of hundred miles of me, but don't know anyone personally who owns one. Nice looking tractors and the only one I've been on (or in) was a cab model with good air-conditioning. Gear transmission only available.
Hi! I used to work at a Zetor dealer, and we had 2 Zebra 2040, one of which is now mine. They are neat little tractors. We used to rent one out with a 48 inch roto-tiller on the back. We also used to use them on big PTO powered grain augers. Mine has a KwikWay loader on the front. I haven't gotten any other attachments for it yet, but I might get a finish mower for it. What info are you looking for? I'm at work, so I'll list what I know, but I can look up most anything, as I have the books for it.
They were not made by Zetor, only sold through Zetor dealers. The 2 that I have seen do not say Zetor on them anywhere. I can’t remember how to spell the name of the Czech company that actually built them.
25 net HP, about 20 at the draw bar and 23 at the PTO
Air cooled 2 cylinder diesel
2.5 GPM hydraulic pump
4WD of course, with mechanically locking front diff
Cat 1N 3 point hitch
12 volt electrical system, with headlights, tail, brake and turn signals
3 speed tranny, with hi and lo aux. tranny, for 6 forward and 3 reverse speeds, as well as 3 PTO speeds.
No aux hydraulics
Mine has power steering thanks to a KwikWay power steering kit, sold as an accessory to the loader. My loader uses it's own hydraulic pump mounted to the front of the engine.
I'm working on making a web site for them, as I have found very little info on them on the web.
The dealer I worked for still has one for sale.
Please ask any other questions that you may still have. I know it's been a while since you posted but I just found this site.
Hello Brian: I just got found this web site and am new. I have a 2040 Zebra and have worked it for about 5 or 6 years. I use it to bush hog mostly. I had the engine overhauled two years ago and got some info such as a manual from a Zetor dealer in Morrilton Arkansas. Question: How do I select speed of PTO. On thing of interest I have learned is that if you are digging post holes and your auger hangs up, you can reverse the direction of the auger. Do you know where I might get a parts manual? I have a parts listing for the engine, but not the rest of the tractor. Thanks. Bill from Arkansas.
I have access to a parts manual that covers the whole tractor. I can either make a photo copy, and mail it to you, or I might be able to digitize it and e-mail it to you. You would have to pay the postage to mail the hard copy. I can get you the parts manual, the service manula and the owners manual.
I believe you can set the PTO speed by using the same lever that you use to reverse it. You know you have your 1-2-3 speed lever, and then your Lo-Reverse-Hi lever. You can use the PTO with the range lever in either Lo or Hi, to get the 540 or 1000 rpm PTO speeds.
Hope that helps. I'll double check that information when I get the manuals for you.
I just picked up a Zetor Zebra 2040 with a mower, box blade, and post hole digger. It is a fun little machine! I'm amazed at how stable it is. I'd like to add a front end loader. Could you tell me what model your KwikWay loader is? Also, could you tell me how it is mounted? Do you have any pictures of it that you could send?
Also, I would really like to get a copy of the manual you were referring to. I would prefer the electronic copy but I'll pay for postage to ship, if needed.
I will see if I can't get those manuals scanned in sometime in the next couple days.
I'll have to take the camera out to get photos of the loader mount, but it had brackets that bolt to the sides of the engine, and the tops of the front axle. The front fenders come off. There is also a cross tube that runs under the tractor right infront of the pivot point. It is a model 45-18910. They stopped making it 9 or 10 years ago, but the 45 part refers to the loader, and the rest is basically the mounting brackets. The 45 is still made, just not for the Zebra. I have some literature on the loader too, if I can find it, I'll scan it too.
