 Ford 3000 Inop.

First post, but man do I need some "Adult Supervision". When engaged, my PTO shaft spins and increases rpms in conjunction with the motor. But when I put a load on it, i.e., my brush hog, no spin just grinding as if trying to engaged. There is a lot of slack in the PTO control lever forward to rear.

Tell me if there is an easy fix or is it time to go see the tractor Dr.

Thanks for your time,

Mr. Non PTO

I don't know about the supervision, but the tractor sounds like it needs some TLC.

It sounds like the shift mechanism is either out or the fork is bent.

Was it really hard to engage at some point and someone forced it?

Best of luck.

GR Have to ask are you pushing the clutch all the way down to engage PTO? I'm trying to remember but seems like it was a 2 stage clutch on those.

The spinning is normal for old tractors the heavy viscoicity oil drag them along.

However Murf may have it that it only partially engaged but I would think that with out pressure on the lever the grinding would stop.

Thank you two very much for your reply.

Since I've had it it was never forced. The clutch seems to be adjusted corredtly and yes the clutch was engaged. I suspected bent forks, but, the lever as free travel from the tranny case to the rear axle.

There is a retired (semi) IH mechanic down the road. Might be time to give him a call.

Thanks again.
