Hate to say it, but it sounds like something is bent in the loader frame and/or mount to the tractor. The cylinders will tend to equalize since they are on the same hydraulic circuit. That is why it's OK at the extremes. Most loaders have some sort of torque tube connecting the two arms and that's really all that keeps the arms even. Have someone slowly raise the loader to the stops while you CAREFULLY watch for flexing. It will likely flex when one arm hits the stop until the other one catches up. Wherever it flexes is probably the area that is bent. Not sure how to fix, perhaps the dealer or a frame shop? Hope this helps, Rob.

Thought I'd share my first impressions for those still tractor shopping...I chose the 790 for value and I've always been fond of Green tractors. Never owned anything bigger than my Craftsman lawn tractor previously but I did use a friends' Kubota years ago. Both my wife and I prefer manual transmission vehicles, so the GST was a natural for us. I got the tractor with R-1s, loader, 513 cutter and mid-PTO for the future. First thing I did was put a tow hook on the bucket (very handy). I've since cut the weeds on 7 of our 10 acres and borrowed a 7 1/2 foot disc to smooth out the land. All has gone well so far. Mower ate some rocks and other rocks broke a couple of disc blades (it is very old and rusty). Picked up five loader buckets full of rocks. I've mastered turning brakes and even had to use the diff lock while discing. I was concerned about the TPH lift capacity, but it's been fine even with this large disc. I'm looking forward to putting in a culvert and some tree planting in the near future, as well as more rock picking. Thanks to all the other members who helped with my decision. Rob

Just got my JD790 last night! I feel like my six year old on Christmas day. First of many questions: Do the rotary cutter blades need to be sharpened? I got the JD513 cutter and the blades are nice and thick with a very round profile on the leading edge. Seems to me it ought to be sharp, but I'm new at this. Any thoughts from you seasoned pros? Greetings helpful board members! My wife and I are close to closing on our long awaited rural property (my justification for getting a tractor!). A good bit of our 10 acres is previous farmland and still has furrows 6-8 inches deep (or high?). I want to smooth the land and plant some native grasses while we prepare to build. As I see it, my options are to pay a local farmer (effective but not much fun) or attempt it myself as a first project with my yet to be purchased tractor (probably a 790). Questions are: Is it reasonable to attempt this myself? What is the best method (Round-UP?, disc?, drag?, how big?, etc?). The soil is sandy and light, vegetation is mostly a grass like plant planted in rows with associated low weeds. I suspect it's tall fescue for erosion control, but could be wheat or rye. Land is basically flat. I'd just leave it alone, but the furrows make it tough to get around and we do eventually want to keep some of it cut. Thanks ahead of time for any and all suggestions. Rob

OK, this isn't really tractor related, but I'll explain...Wife and I are shopping for 5-10 acres to eventually build on. While researching tractors (just for cost estimating) I happened across this board. Now I'm hooked and even have my tractor picked out (talk about the cart before the horse, right!?!). My question is, does anyone know af a similar forum related to vacant land and associated issues? We have lot's of questions about financing, zoning, what to watch out for, developers, etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Rob (Northern IN, looking in SW MI)<br>

Thanks, The tractor (ford) was used out West (Calif. Area) for mowing between grapevines. It does not have a loader on it but the dealer is going to put a loader on it which will be included in the price of $11,000. I have not decided which brand yet. It has 2600 hours on it so that would aveage out to about 260 hours a year. It's dinged up and the fenders will be painted by the dealer. I saw it just after it was off loaded from the truck. Do consider it larger then the 4100. The rear tires a abit worn but the front look good.

Thank you for the info. I was curious if I would be mowing in low range or if the tractor would handle the mower in high. I kind of thought it would require low but was hopeful (at least on my flat ground) Icould get away with a little high range mowing. The Woods RD6000 sounds similar in weight to the landpride 15 series deck you described. I've anticipated leaving the loader on while mowing or getting some bolt on weights if the loader turns out to be too cumbersome around the trees on the lot.
So far I have been very pleased with the loader. However, this is my first tractor so I don't have much to compare it's performance with. I've used the loader quite a lot this summer moving dirt around some new construction, spreading rock over a very large drive and in conjunction with a box scraper to do quite a bit of grade work. For the most part the box scraper (about 250 lbs.) for the five footer that I have served well as a counter balance to a full loader. More recently I have bulit a "home-made" 3ph weight that I found at a web site. I'll try to include the link. It works well and is much more compact than the scraper. It weighs roughly 350- to 375 lbs., + or - a few pounds.
I bought the loader new with the tractor and am glad I did. It really is handy, even if one doesn't anticipate doing a lot of loader work. I have taken the loader off twice since I have had it and it is an easy process. About 10 minutes either way to take it off or put it on. It is a much easier process on solid, level ground with something to "push" against.
I couldn't imagine buying another tractor without a front loader. It's just way too handy to have around!

I have a 4600 MFWD w/loader and backhoe...paid a cool 30k and it runs perfect. Not sure what you mean by marketing hype and JDs suffering from US management and marketing push....looked at the kubotas, nice machine but seemed like a toy compared to the big boy 4600 IMHO. Local Kubota dealer here in Maine has about twenty compacts sitting on his lot. JD dealer is backordered about six months...go figure

I'm getting close in hours to servicing my New Holland 21d. Just checked with the dealer on prices for filters. OUCH!!! The air filter (outer) is almost fifty bucks! Am I naive to be shocked by this? Not that I'm not willing to pay the bucks for maintaining my tractor, just wondering if anyone out there can turn me on to a quality replacement filter for less $$$.
