I had the same problem with same machine. Even tried everything except replacing the clutch. All the while, my machine ran like a paint shaker. Eventually the shaking got so bad that one engine mount bolt can out, and another one got ripped from the frame. I finally broke down and paid $150 for a clutch, all I needed to replce it was 10 minutes and a ratchet.

I will check into that- I was sure that this was an issue of you get what you pay for. Northern has a Warn or Ramsey (+8000#'s) for a couple hundred more.

That's the best price on the machine alone that I have heard. (About $700 cheaper than I was quoted in Dallas.) I think the price of the hoe is pretty good, but I can't remember what I was quoted.

with the info you have given, this sounds like nothing more than cold weather/ cold engine problems. First, you mentioned 0 degrees- F or C? cause if you talking 0 F there are a lot of machines that wont turn over perdiod in that kind of temp. Second, you mentioned that the tractor was still turning over slowly when the temp warmed up- that could be do to draining power from the battery back when it was 0 degrees. Or, how cold was it the night before? Steel won't warm up as quickly as the day does.

I would love to here from somebody who has a JD Buck- especially the big one. That would be the perfect machine for me as far as work goes- that is if I can aslo get a tractor so I wouldn't have to plow with the Buck.

I didn't mention before that I used to plow with with the 6 wheeled diesel Gator- and it could easily handle more snow than the plow had height. It was the older style rigid frame that sat pretty close to the ground, so I would get stuck if I got too aggresive or cocky. But it was great while I was moving. Those were the days...

I'm glad you found it. I swear, Gators were not meant to be worked on- but in your case it sounds like you kind of lucked out. My old 6 wheeler had an electric powered dump bed which sometimes required me to revove the bed to get to the engine if the problem I was having was electrical!

Murf- refering to your point about getting more milage out of the good stuff, another way of looking at it would be this: If ethenol gets a driver 10% fewer miles per gallon, than instead of costing $3.00/gallon to go 25 miles, it now costs $3.30. (Which is probably a few cents more than the premium.)
This seems like it would make a pretty good story in Time or Newsweek- these magizines that are so good at informing the public of important things they need to know. They could run another story about the downsides of the new energy saving lightbulbs... but you guys know how I feel about that.

Hey, I used sheet metal on my CJ5 grill. Granted, it's not as fancy as one of then new "therostat" devices, but I considered it quite a step up from cardboard.

I wish I had an old picture of the inside of that cab- it got crowded with dryer vent hoses, duck tape, and close hangers to get the heat around, but it got the job done. And, it's only cold in Colorado 7 or 8 months out of the year.

If you want to get really nautical, you can splice 2 or even 3 lengths of triple braid together. This would make a much larger rope, but you need to be a pretty big knot geek to get it done. Actually, once you figure it out, it's the same sequence over and over . About 500 times. If candoarms sees this link he'll probably hunt down the web site that shows you how to do it!

The on spots are cool, but $2000 is pretty steep. It is my understanding that the system comes with the comprssor- but I could be wrong about that.

belgiant , have you thought about making your own chains? Where you are having clearence problems you could substitute smaller links or cable. There are a lot of advantages to making your own- you can make them as mean as you need them to be, you can add or subtract traction, you can do basically whatever you want as long as you don't run out of shackles. They don't have to be DOT approved, and if you break one, big whoop.

Knowing that PTO pumps start at about $400, and hydraulic pumps start at about $140- could a PTO adaptor be used and just turn a hydraulic pump?

I have been hearing scuttlebut from friends in federal law enforcement about a new program that has just been launched which is supposed to combat this type of theft. Currently, there is a nation wide data base which works very well with tracking down stolen cars right? Well this data base will include everything with a seriel number. From lawn mowers to medical equipment.

Of course, car thieves invented the chop shop to beat this system... but maybe this will help the problem.
