I'm a parts man a JD dealership, and we believe we treat our customers better than the chains and other brands. And our customers tell us that. We treat every customer the same when they come in whether they bought from us or not. We're just glad to get whatever we can! However, it disturbs me that after providing the level of service and satisfaction that our customers expect, we still seem to lose sales to customers wanting to save $100 on a compact tractor. And I mean local customers!! Why are we $100 more? Because we carry a larger inventory of equipment, keep a larger supply of parts, keep longer hours, pay our people well so we can keep the experienced ones, etc, etc. And sometimes were higher because it cost us $100 to get the tractor shipped to us...and the other dealer forgot to figure it in the deal. Our owners run a very respectable business, I think, but customers need a local dealer that can service them. Is that worth a $100? $500?

Just my opinion: JD highly recommends Curtis products, which means Curtis is a high quality, reputable company. Since you bought a JD, go with the canopy JD recommends.

Rob: you summed up in one paragraph, why John Deere is the superior choice. If potential tractor buyers on here are having a tough time deciding between Fiat-NH, Kubota, and Deere, Rob stated several points that many of us tend to forget about until we actually buy a tractor.

You can never go wrong with an OEM filter! However, Fleetguard, owned by Cummins, produces very high quality filters for the aftermarket.

Guys: From another dealers standpoint: I can understand how you feel. We are disgusted too as dealers, because we have a large demand but little supply. We have sold 12 4000's this year...which is more compacts than we have sold in the last 4 years combined..and we dont have a large draw for compacts. My point is, this has been such a popular product, Deere wasnt even prepared for it! Alot of people could have had a 4000 earlier in the year if they would not have been on here trying to find out the lowest price. Now, not everyone! Yes, six months is too long to wait. And yes, Kubota has an excellent product. Everyone on here has alot of good points. I just think Deere never figured this 4000 line was going to be such a hit!!!

Can't tell you much about the Long except that my dealer said the a company called Long Agribusiness has brought them into the US (about 5 years ago) . It's located in Tarboro, NC and supposedly has a very large warehouse with available parts for the Long tractor. Haven't heard of any specific trouble areas on the tractor but may be too soon to tell. For the price, they sound good. Let me know if you learn of any trouble areas or service problems with them.

How about the warranties? Check those out too. Also, look ahead 10 years (if you plan on keeping it that long). If you start making repairs, I hear Kubota's parts prices are quite high. Not a big deal now, but maybe in the future.

You guys are right about keeping an open mind when shopping for tractors. However, there is at least one concern when buying a Massey: Resale and product support. Are Massey parts higher than Deere parts or Kubota parts? Labor Rates? Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying this is the case for Massey, I just think some people dont look far enough ahead when buying a tractor!

You are unfortunately correct. These have been popular for John Deere. If anyone is interested in a 4000 Series, I recommend spending less time on here to see if you can save $500 and go ahead and get one ordered before it is too late.

Assuming that a Ford, Kubota, John Deere, and other brands were created equally, who would you buy from? Who could you count on for parts? service? dealer support? If Ford had the same specs and prices as a Deere, what would drive you to buy either one?
