I would ask the following questions:
How much of the loader's mount kit will have to be removed to attach the snowblower, and how long will this take 2X a year?
If the driveway is NOT paved, will a blower work effectively and trouble-free?
Would a loader-mount plow be cheaper & better than a blower?
Will I want a cab to protect me when I am out there?
Do I really want turfs, and will a 60" blower clear my track width with turfs?

This is a common complaint on the class III TC's. It has been suggested that coolant is bypassing from the radiator to the block via the common coolant drain located on the right side of the engine/radiator. The jury is still out on this, because the common drain has been used for over 10 years on NH and Ford compacts. The difference MAY be that these tractors are the biggest NH's with hydrostatic transmissions. The cooling systems may be designed larger to cool the engine after air has been 'preheated' by the oil cooler. You could try pinching off the drain tube and see if the temp runs higher in similar conditions. If you choose to try this, please let me know what you find, either post here or email me. To VT Steve and others. The class II NH compacts (25,29,33)retain the clutch pedal/right side brakes due to their use of a master clutch to engage/disengage the transmission AND PTO. This is true whether the tractor is gear drive or hydro. Disengaging the hydrostatic transmission with a clutch is a redundant function, but the basic design requires the clutch for PTO operation. This design allows a certain commonality of parts between hydros & gear drive units. The Class III tractors (35,40,45) were designed with an independent multiple disc wet PTO clutch. This feature is the key to eliminating the foot clutch, allowing the ability to move the brakes to the left side. As a NH mechanic dealing with many owners in the shop and at their homes and places of business, I can tell you the issue of RH/LH brake pedals gets far more play on this board than from owners of NH tractors, just an observation. All TC's with clutch pedals have 'real' clutches. Many larger NH's use switches and potentiometers, but TC's are not that sophisticated yet.

You won't find 'aftermarket' injectors in the true sense of the word. Your tractor's engine was designed to use a particuler fuel injector with a particular nozzle or tip, which in all but the most obscure cases was supplied by an outside vendor such as Kiki or Robert Bosch. A diesel injection/pump shop in your area may be a dealer for your brand of fuel system components and can offer new or reman parts, or perhaps rebuild/refurbish yours at a better price than your tractor dealer (who probably sends customer pumps & injectors out to that same shop).

Haven't seen or heard anything to indicate NH is pursuing that. I can tell you Woods loaders offer quick-tach adapters compatible with most brands of skid loaders. We haven't mounted any on TC class III's yet, but have on 1920's and class II TC's. Don't know if a Woods in that size would be SuperSteer compatible, something to check on.

The 1910 and 1920 are both very sturdy, reliable tractors as a rule. Give the advantage to the 1920 in the following areas: Separate fully hydrostatic power steering, in leiu of the power-assist from a priority valve/single pump on the 1910, this is a big advantage, along with the '20's higher flow rate. Shuttle from F to R in any gear, good for many applications, not especially critical for many others. 1920 not so dependent on preheating with glowplugs as the 1910. 1920 is SUBSTANTIALY easier to perform basic service and most repairs on than the 1910, but that still isn't too bad compared to other brands. Are the advantages worth the price difference? If condition was comparable, I would give the 1920 serious consideration, and the longer you plan to keep it, the more I would lean towards it. Great Bend makes a very good loader, and the new series of Woods loaders are very good, too, much better than those models they replace.

An aerator will give more of the benefits of water & fertilizer infiltration to the root zone of a grass pasture than a subsoiler. An added benefit will be much less surface disturbance with the aerator, making for easier mowing.

My experience with Curtis snowplows is the mounting tabs are NOT welded to the frame, but shipped loose. This isn't to say they can't be ordered ready to pin on, just that I have never seen it.

You bring up a very valid point, and one of my pet peeves about the TC line. There is no info currently available from NH that indicates this rather foolish marketing strategy (or lack thereof) will be corrected soon. Gear-drive customers will continue to be deprived of the best features of the Boomers.

Dennis, I am more familiar with NH compacts than JD, but I have a suggestion. It may be possible for the draft links to be swapped from side to side AS WELL AS end for end. This would result in the attachment loops for the sway chains being on the 'proper' side of the link, but at the improper dimension from the anchor point below the axle housing. This may not apply to your tractor, but it is possible on many NH tractors.

The short jumper hose is part of the oil cooler circuit. The hose clamps that connect the hose to the tubes are probably a little loose. Tighten them up, clean the oil residue off & observe the area for a while. If the leak persists, replace the hose AND the clamps. The fabric is the outer cover of the hose.

The asking price is way too high, IMHO. According to the info I have, the 820 was built from 1969 to 1973 with open center hyd's, not the closed center Deere's other ag tractors of the 60's &70's used. Even the replacement model 830 was only built in '74&75 . It is most definitely not a '78 machine. What else is being misrepresented? The hours, perhaps. Shop around, that price should buy you a comparable sized tractor at least 10 years newer than the one you are looking at. Power steering IS a necessity for tractors with loaders. Those who say different either 1: don't use them much at all, 2:have never used one with a good power steering system, or 3: want you to suffer like they do.

Tell your dealer to find the tractor you want to buy, or find another dealer. The NH dealer I work for has DOZENS of Boomers out with Supersteer. As of yet we have had NO problems related to the SuperSteer feature, period. Your dealer is obviously unwilling to stock & promote units with this cutting edge feature, and sooner or later he will lose sales because of this attitude (maybe yours?). You will really like theSupersteer axle for your mowing duties.

You can bet just as soon as Fleetguard, NAPA, and the rest DO have crossovers, the OEM list price will go down. That fuel filter is a common NH/Ford filter, been around for years, should cross over now. Not sure about the hyd.

I work for a dealer of both Woods & Bush Hog. Every time I see a cutter question, I think "why do they call them ALL Bush Hogs?". I wouldn't own a Woods cutter, but that's just my $0.02. Price out common repair parts such as blades & blade hardware, include that info in your decision. A 'stump jumper may be optional equip on the Woods, don't buy one without it. The new series of Squealers (3 digit #'s) are quite a bit stouter than the old series.

I believe today's hydro systems, when properly operated & maintained, will run longer with fewer repairs than a gear drive tractor with a dry clutch. Specific application will dictate which system is 'better' ; hydros are not well suited for high drawbar loads. Your statement about large tractors & hydros is well founded, I know of no 'large tractors' (my definition) with hydros. What disappoints me is most manufacturers treat geardrive units as second class tractors, putting creature features and some near-necessary convenience items in the option or not available categories, forcing a segment of the market to do without features provided to other buyers whether they are wanted or not.

New Holland does not market a 5w-40 motor oil in North America. 10w-30 and 15w40 are the choices for multi-vis diesel rated oils (5w-30 is rated for gasoline engines only).
