Ann, is a sharpening steel one of those hand-held metal post thingys that look like a rough (not polished) rod of steel? I just want to make sure I know what you are talking about.

My wife's cousin's jusband used something like that on his expensive cooking knives over Christmas. He has to have the best of everything so that people look up to him. In his mind they do. To everyone else, he's just a guy with ADD and a Neil Young look that he's not quite pulling off. Did I mention he's basically a male gold-digger to be blunt?

Earthworks, I won't argue that 64 and sunny can be mighty nice. I just don't handle 95 and 99% humidity well. Actually I handle it worse than snow and cold. I may change in 20 years time. Check with my opinion then.

Blueman, I've seen Rangers that got backed over a steep drop-off in a pond and sunk past the top of the rollbars. Once pulled out, the gas and oil drained and replaced, the belt dried out, it started up and kept running. As long as the belt stays dry, you should be fine running through the creek. Maybe check the clutch housing to make sure it's sealed up from water. It will need a vent so it doesn't presurize when it warms up from running.

Whirlpool's front loading washers are made in Europe. I was guessing as to the actual country. The first units that Whirlpool came out with were terrible. But they have gotten better. I remember the unit we had in the test lab was broken every week. It was one of the first ones made by Whirlpool. Maytag bought it and ran it to see how well it worked. They lost money with all the warranty repair visits to our lab!! But they have gotten better.

The important thing is your wife being happy. Without that... Well, better just not go there.

The Whirlpool front loading units are not Neptunes. The old classic Neptunes are marketed under the Maytag and Crosley brands. Maytag did come out with newer Neptunes (front loading with glass door and controls on the front). These were made by Samsung are complete garbage. Stay away from Samsung laundry units. Ungodly ridiculous warranty rates on those units. But Whirlpool was ditching the Samsung made units for re-badged Whirlpool units. But I can tell them apart, but I'm not sure how to tell you to tell them apart as I think Whirlpool was using the same model number. Doh!!

I hope they figure it out and get ya fixed up. My stepdad had been dealing with a bad hip for several years. Some docs saying you need a hip replacement, etc. So just stopped complaining to them. But it really affected his life. He went to another doc, she touched him in 3 paces, said it burcitis. Gave him a cortezone shot and he's doing great.

So I hope this doc knows what he's doing for your sake!

Yep looks really bad out there. Good thing I went to work for a power distribution equipment company. Bad weather is good for business, tragically.

Ken, nothing like a stocked pantry and a full propane cylinder on the grill. I don't need much. I always had about a week of food on hand at a minimum in winter. That way when the weather turns ugly, you can stay warm and fed.

Wonder if they'll have problems with people stealing the downed power lines for the metal like the east coast did...

i had it done in my F250 around 100-120k miles when a rear end seal blew. it is a good idea especially if you need the truck to go a long time. I'll probably have mine done again around 175k miles as added insurance. I'm currently at 150k miles.

I forgot to mention on Wednesday my movers cut out early to beat the snow the Des Moines TV stations were going Ape-Shlitz about. We never got a a single snow flake out that. There are wars and such going on all over the place. They at least could not blow it out of proportion. But then what else would they do or say?

Ok, so my movers ran late and instead of being done on Wednesday, they get done at 4:15 pm Thursday. I need to clean the house then drive to Milwaukee from Iowa. I hit the road at 6:15 pm finally. I call my wife (who is in WI already) and have her check the radar on the 'puter. Dang, gotta re-route north to stay out of Illinois.<br>

So anyway, bust ass, beat the storm. Roll in at midnight. Now, I am living with my parents with my wife, child and two dogs. I own a JD 4310 tractor, an 8 hp two stage snow blower, an ATV with a plow. It snows like hell here where we got 10"-12". So how do we clear snow? <br>

All my stuff is in storage. My parents have a single stage snow blower. The snow is wet. The single stage blowers just clog up. It's going old school with shovels. So I spent 4 days packing, moving stuff and cleaning. I can relax... wrong!!! Go shovel wet snow. <br>

We could only laugh at all the snow removal equipment that is owned by myself and my parents and there we were shoveling the driveway while the neighbor kids dove head first into the snowbank.<br>

The trailer had an ATV, the 6ft straight blade, the 60" tiller in the loader bucket and the box blade on the tractor. All fit and all made it ok. I lost lots of time since the brand new trailer didn't have enough grease in the wheel bearings. So one axle was running blazing hot. I found this out after my first stop after 80 miles.

I must have pumped over one tube of grease (I used 3 guns, 2 borrowed and I finally bought 1) into the 4 bearings. It finally cooled down. But I lost gobs of time.

My entry level deer gun at age 12 was a borrowed 20 gauge shotgun with slugs. Got a deer that year too! I think it depends on where you hunt. I was in the midwest where the long range shot doesn't exist. Currently, every hunter in the household and and at deer camp uses a .50 caliber muzzleloader. That may be a bit much at 12, but a .45 caliber muzzleloader would probably be ok especially if you knocked the powder charge down.

I guess I'm saying I'm not familiar enough with the .308 to really offer an opinion on it. I typically would start on a gun with limited range and accuracy to develop that experience in waiting for a good, clean shot.

I'm lucky enough that my 4310 hydro is new enough that it doesn't creep on me on a hill, yet. Given time, I expect the hydraulics to start to leak down a bit. But if I stop on a hill I use the brakes to take the load off the hydraulics. I also make sure to release the pressure on the hydraulics when I am shut down.

DRANKIN, Ever walk the rainforest on Kodiak Island? You wouldn't think an Alaskan Island is a rainforest.

But even by the Northwest's standards, that is too much rain. Ugh! I remember the summer after I left Northern Minnesota, the town got 10 inches of rain in something like 4-6 hours. Flooded the whole town including the house I sold.

I don't keep my dogs as guards. But they make such a racket that anybody would have to be stupid or doped up to try anything. The lab sounds like a man eater despite being afraid if you look at him cross-eyed! But he makes me laugh. My mutt looks mean as she really gets her hackles up like a serious mohawk. Really freaks people out. But they are my buddies, not guard dogs.

Ya gotta love swamps for making people disappear. Italians and such have been using that method for centuries.

I do like dogs since they don't require electricity. We don't always have electricity out in the county but I do have my dogs.

You get what ya pay for. I've always gotten good advice form the members on this board. But then, that's why they are here. They have the knowledge and experience and this is what interests us. We all have very similar interests, beer, tractors, property, blowing things up and laughing at each other's stupid escapades. Besides, Murf's stories about Deputy dog (if I remember right) always crack me up. You don't get those anywhere else.

I sold my 64 Oliver 550 diesel for $2500. But it smoked, leaked some oil. Hood was dented, missing the original exhaust, front grill fiberglass piece was all busted, one brake didn't work so hot, clutch slipped, etc. Yours is in probably better shape and therefore worth more money.
