Billy,
I guess what I am trying to say is that one gear is too slow, you just creep along, and the next gear is too fast, making the mower bounce too bad. I am wondering if I need to trade tractors so I can get a 16 speed transmission instead of an 8 speed before I get too many hours on this one and it loses it's value. Thanks for your reply.

In addition to a suitable hoe, I'd check dimensions for maneuvering and the hoe's reach.<br>

I imagine that few tractors can drive between the graves in many places so you'd have to dig from one end or drive around to the other (which probably wouldn't make a grounds supernatant too happy). <br>

It would take a pretty big tractor and hoe to dig a long enough 6' trench from one point and the grave would have to be trenched if you can't drive around to the other side. You'd have to dump along the grave sides. Filling graves probably is customarily done by hand but if the tractor is going to do it, I'd figure out how I'd backfill dirt dumped along the sides. Few tractors could be maneuvered perpendicular to the middle of a grave in many cemeteries.<br>

The last few times I've worked on grass I put down lumber so the stabilizers and loader bucket blade didn't dig in, and I dumped on lengths of vapour barrier. There's a real problem using a tractor to backfill without messing up a lawn.<br>

I am sure you can buy a three point mounted B/H for any tractor, even a BX2200, but there are horror stories out there (and on this web site) about terrible and catastrophic failures when using a backhoe without a sub-frame.

I bought a tractor, a Deere 4100, nearly two years ago knowing that it was not engineered to take a backhoe and then later figured out I needed a tractor with a hoe. So I had to buy another tractor.

If there is any possibility that you will need a backhoe in the future, do yourself a big favor and get a tractor now that is engineered to take one.

In your case a step up to a B7500 would do that.

Keep in mind though that a B7500 with a loader and a B/H will cost $21+K after some hard bargaining or maybe a long drive. A BX22 T/L/B package is about $5k less and is built to take the stress.

The anti-sway thing attach just to the outside of this ear, on a metal bracket that is bolted to the side of the tranny, the outside 3 pt is next to it. My main worry is that the steel shaft will bend, but it seems unlikely, but then again, it must have moved a little or the ear would not have broken off. How tight should those anti-sway bars be? It uses the trunbuckle to tighten with a chain type link on each end. They were quite loose, so I tighten them to snug.

BTW, Where can I get used/new parts for this, being possibly 20+ years old. I might need a rectifier and a wiring harness (melted).

I found that trying to purchase 3point attachments for a b6000 was difficult at best and have resorted to building my own. For a back scoop (loader) I built one based on plans I purchased from www.cadplans.com. I had to modify the plans to allow for lift height and scaled down to a 24 inch bucket. It works fine, however, to do it over, I would have used lighter materials to reduce overall implement weight.

Branson grew about 300% last year, and is already on target for phenominal growth this year. The distributor support is second to none. As to whether to go with Century or Branson, I'd go with the best local dealer.

Any Branson dealer worth his salt will know at least a little about the other Korean lines. TYM/Mahindra is a good tractor, fairly equivalent to the Branson/Century and the Kioti. I sell Branson's, but can't throw rocks at the other guys either.

The numbers I have would seem to indicate the large frame Deere's have a gross vehicle weight of about 10,250 pounds. Does that agree with your manual?

Ray, If I am reading the description correctly, it sounds like you plan to put a separate plate under each hook.

That will work fine but you still might get a little localized warping.

A length of plate or channel that spans the entire width of the FEL bucket would be just a bit stronger.

Massey did have a 254 it was a badge-engineered Landini from 1982-87,with a 3 cylinder Perkins motor putting out 43 pto hp.

Never heard of Massey using the Field Boss name though. White used it in the late 70s into the 80s though.

I have an E324 and have been very pleased with it. It has a loader and seems to have plenty of power for a compact.

If any one has new info on parts dealers please let me know (I would like to replace the wheel bearing seals). Also interested in which Massey F. that this machine may share parts with.

Len, you just articulated a very important rule:
It has to "sit" good.
It is worth the extra bucks to get something you can be comfortable with.
I am 6-3 and my Kubota BX sits better than my Deere 4100, especially if I gotta drive it while looking out the rear.
