Hi all. What a journey! So many models and so many considerations. Just when I thought I had found the brand and price for me (Kubota 4930 with loader and 9'Kubota hoe for $29,700) I hear about the ease of backhoe hookup and wild loader specs on the JD 4610. My ignorant opinion is that at this hp range, losing 4 hp to the Kubota is nothing compared to the benefit of ease of switching implements. I digress. I would be pushing my budget at the $29,700 (delivered to VT from NY with no sales tax) for the Kubota but got my first quote on the JD here in Taxachusetts at $31,772 before delivery and taxes (5%). So the question to the board is: Is there any hope of getting a JD 4610, Hydro, 460 loader and 48 hoe for under $30,000? Thanks for the help

On the finish mower, we ran a 6 foot and the tractor did not know it was back there. You can certainly go bigger.

I have a three acre yard here in Western Washington. And as long as its kept mowed routinely its looks as good as any other yard planted with a good quality premium seed mix. However its simply a well maintained former dairy pasture. Its taken about 5 years to obtain this look, but I'm very satisfied with it now.

The first year I bush hogged it often to keep the weeds from getting a new start. The next couple of years I mowed with a 72" flail mower to mulch the existing grasses to a 3" height. Also added weed and feed every spring and fall.

Last April I purchased a new 72" First Choice, rear discharge, 3pt hitch mount mower. now it takes a little over three hours, once a week to keep mowed. I'm using a New Holland TC29 with no problems.

One hint though, if you have any wet areas, I would try to get them drained as many pasture grasses grow high and fast in wet areas. And can get away from your ability to mow them short enough before you get around to it.

Hey TomG,
A single control valve by Cross costs 75 bucks at Tractor Supply. A high pressure in and return to tank with A and B outs to a rear cylinder. Valve control lever rockers in both directions to give power both ways to the attached cylinder connected to A and B ports.

Tractors are used in a similar way to marine engines. The highest grade for diesel motor oils is currently the CH-4 for high speed 4 stroke diesels with low sulfur content fuel. I have not seen specific grades for marine engine oil, most are the same as the heavy duty diesel.

MRETHICS is right on. A compression test in this problem is a major factor that is missing. Why would anybody tear an engine down to the rings and not have the valves and seats re-ground and valve stem seals replaced???

According to AEM, an industry reporting service, said in a Sept issue that Kubota is the #1 compact tractor by sales with an 8.6% increase over last year, John Deere was strong but a far off 2nd and Kioti #3. AEM also said NH was losing ground.

Glad to here of your success. I guess I had the right cause but the wrong reason for the problem. Your low speed adjustment was to rich to allow the opening of the valve and addition more fuel from both jets. I had a Briggs acting the same on a leaf vacuum a few years back.

Sorry about the conversion but I just read model 1700.
The 2000 will be 12 V and 1700 hours is just broken in for these tractors. I had a diesel 2000 here for a while and it had untold hours on it but just started easily after sitting nearly a year.

Well both swing cylinders on my 7 series hoe on my 790 are leaking . Called my sevice rep yesturday and we will see how they live up to sevice what we sell attitude. The tractor has 35 hrs and honestly 20 hrs is hoe work.

Years ago several farmers around here added 4x4 to their combines. They called them "mud hog" rear ends. They took a steerable front end off some old retired 4x4 or purchased one at a junk yard. They added this to the rear and hooked up a hydraulic motor to drive this addition. This gave them gear ratio to match the main drive plus addional traction for their needs. This idea does work with a little fabrication, could be used on compact tractors. You might use a Toyota or Nissan 4X4 front differential or something similar. Cost would be dependant on your ability to scrounge, weld, fab., or hire reasonable skill.

My dealer put together my blower as part of the package when I bought the tractor. The $1000CDN for a rear to front PTO conversion on top of the blower price sort of made my decision for me. The conversion also lowers ground-clearance and I never considered it long enough to figure how difficult going from rear to front PTO use might be.

I'm happy to know that one is around and I'd likely be very interested if I had a 1/2 mile or so roadway to clear. With my short drives, I'm happy enough with my 3ph blower. On the other hand, it's snowing right now and my neck is stiff and sore. I'd probably end up with a sore back from twisting my body around since my neck won't turn very far. I've spent most of the past week at a computer nursing along a crash and then setting up a new box. But that's a straw man I guess. The gravel isn't frozen so I couldn't use the blower no matter what.

It's sort of a sideline issue, but my Item 21 in my 1710 repair manual procedure for separating the engine and TX says 'Wedge wood blocks between the engine side-rails and front axle to prevent the engine from tipping.'

I suppose that some ways of using an overhead hoist would eliminate the requirement and that possibly was what was done. Of course, you've been involved in a split and I haven't. I haven't had to do a split so I'm just going from a procedure. I have had engines and TX's out of trucks and motorcycles though.
