Delivered today a brand spanking new Kubota B7500 HST with a 60" belly mower and Woods 1006 FEL. One happy puppy at this point. My only drawback is the timing of my purchase since I'm MCing a show all day tomorrow, and working out of town 2 days next week and vacationing in Lexington KY the end of next week. The 3rd week of June I should have lots of time (depending on work) to put it thru some paces, however I'll have to mow the grass once a week as usual if ever quits raining.<br>Tell me about box scrapers.

I have been watching with some interest the comments about TC35D prices. I am suppose to take delivery tomorrow of a TC35D (no SS) with 16A FEL and R4 tires. Quoted price $17,995. My "local dealers" (all about one hour away) wouldn't deal much on price. The dealer I'm bying from is about two and a half hours away but beats their prices by $2000. If it is not a lemon I have a good deal. If I spend all my time trucking it back and forth from the dealer for repairs I'm not sure how I will feel.

Tom, you bring up an excellent point that most Newbies (and probably the rest of us too) would miss in terms of storage space. When calculating how much space is needed, it is often done early in the process and as the toy collection, errr, excuse me, the number of implements increases, so does the need for storage. Then there is the work space over and above this. Case in point, a neighbour built a generous two car garage kit as an 'equipment shed' for his compact, now there is room for everything inside, until he needs to work on something, then half of it has to outside to clear room to work. Based on 20+ years personal experience, and nine generations of farming is 'Murphy's Law' for calculating equipment space. Measure physical dimensions of exerything you need to store, then do what the Government does with it's budget, double it and add 10 or 20% for good measure. I have yet to meet anyone who had less than 500 sq. ft. (especially in cold northern, and very hot southern areas) and most said at least 1000 sq. ft. was required if work-space was needed as well as storage. If 'She who sometimes objects' says anything tell her an 'expert' said so, LOL. Best of luck.

First of all, congrats on the new machine. The Kioti is not a bad tractor from what I have seen of them, they have not really been in Canada long enough to have a 'track record' here yet. However, in the course of my business (building golf courses) we do a lot of work throughout the Caribbean Islands and they have had Kioti's there for some time now, while they are not quite as good as the major brands, they are excellent value. As with most Asian brands they have a lot of experience with compact brands since what we think of as a 'compact' tractor is to them a 'full-size' machine. In fact it is a similar situation with many of the Italian manufacturers. To someone from the Mediterranean or Asia, 3 to 5 acres is a farm, not a backyard. Happy logging and be CAREFUL!! I used my brother-in-laws 4200 last summer for about 2 hours brush hogging. Over all I liked the unit, but thought the placement of the hydro pedals were terrible, particularly the reverse pedal. I had to contort my right leg to depress it. I have e-mailed him this post, maybe he'll want the new/improved design as well. Thanks. Happy and safe tractoring.

Well, I'll add a couple of thoughts as well. I do agree with what Brent and Murf are saying...it is the usage that is most important. My smallest tractor has severe driveshaft windup and is fine after 20 years because of paying attention to only using 4wd where a tire can slip - just as Brent, Murf, and Tom say. About centrifugal force changing tire size, I haven't seen it. But certainly fluid in the tires would make this a real force. The solution has to be not to use 4wd at higher speeds.
As far as stress being cumulative in mechanical systems and leading to failure, this is called "cycles to failure" where the cycles are a complete reversal of stress....rather like bending a piece of wire until it fails. Whether or not the wear is not cumulative on any one part depends on the properties of the material. In systems - as opposed to indiviual pieces - the complete system properties have to be considered and so you are probably correct, Tom. The good news is that it is pretty easy to design something so that many millions of cycles are required to create any significant damage. Doing so is basic engineering 101. You can bet that the guy who designed that system spent sleepless nights considering accumulation of stresses - and then had to defend his conclusions to a group of senior engineers. They will require it to withstand as many oddball circumstances as they can imagine. As users, our task is just to make sure that we don't get so far mismatched that we are "out of the ballpark" on total stresses.
On the issue of whether the fronts should lead or lag, I'm still tossing this around. For 4wd cars at high speed on a high traction surface like asphalt where steering and cornering are important it seems to be a consensus that the fronts should be leading. For tractors I'm not as sure. I've personally had machines set up both ways and so far it appears to be a matter of relative traction between the front and the back - which varies with soil, tire pattern, incline, and load distribution. I'm setting one up now with neutral lead/lag and am curious to see how it will work.

I would suggest you take the s/n numbers to a JD dealer and ask them to run them, let you know the year, the history of the tractor (when sold, where sold, etc.) and then make your decision. You will make contact with those you might need service and parts from in the future, and find out what you need to know.
I would imagine there are limitations on this compact (as there are with all of them) and you should have an idea what the limitations are before you buy. Sounds like a good buy.

Hi, I have a JD4400HST with a JD 60" belly mower attached. The other day (first time this season) my daughter went out to mow the lawn. Unfortunately the retaining pin on the rod of the belly lift cylinder fell off (it's hidden behind the cylinder bracket so you can't see it even to check if it's there) and the cylinder rod dropped in line with the cross shaft link mechanism. When she tried to raise the mower deck, the cylinder extended, pushed on the shaft and broke the belly casting on the tractor. As a result of this the oil in the reservoir ran out, and I've got an almost new (<130hrs)tractor in the repair shop. Current estimates on the repair are anywhere from $3500-$4000. I can't believe that this is the best JD could do for this design!!! Does anyone have a contact number or e-mail address for John Deere, and for those of you with the belly mowers, make sure you check that clip. Thank you in advance.

Yes, I forgot about tire pressure. I run 14-lbs. summer and 12 winter in my turfs when I want more traction and won't be carrying large 3ph loads. Besides, I suspect that 22 lbs. would give a ride that could benefit from using a kidney belt on most any tractor with any tire. However, I do keep in mind the load chart for my tires to make sure I'm not over-loading them when I run low pressures.

Does anyone have information about this ST35 tractor? It's made by Iseki, according to my dealer. It seems to have excellent features, manual shuttle, good hp, and small size. I haven't been able to find specs such as weight and hydraulic capacity, etc. I haven't asked the dealer yet. The dealer gave me a ballpark price of $18000 for tractor and loader (turf tires, mid-pto option, man. shuttle), so I could chew him down a bit. The dealer has been great - I've been dealing with them for parts and service on my 1969 Minneapolis Moline U302 Super. Also, I plan on selling the Minne Moe (w/7' loader) to get a ~30 hp compact 4x4. Any of you gone from a full size ag tractor to a compact? I've done all the tree pulling and other major jobs already. My neighbor tills my fields, so I need a mower for 3 acres, trail brushogger, and loader, etc on a smaller scale. Lots of hills so a tractor with ROPS is a good idea!! Thanks in advance for any information/ideas.

Thanks again for the ideas. I could use a mower on my drainfield area (if the weight's OK, still trying to find that out), I'd like to keep my options open for the future in case I wanted to keep the machine. The more I read on this board, the more I want to keep a tractor. I'm thinking hauling wood for a wood stove, moving big rocks for landscaping, maybe sweeping the driveway, some clearing work etc! Also trading time with a neighbor by helping him out with the tractor in return for him helping me out with the retaining wall.

Hi Rob. the 790 started its life about 25 years ago as the 750, and then the 770, and then its current 790. It has a cast iron axle and trans housing,and is built on proven design.

Hello all! You know, when you look at the post index, this 3 pt vs. frame mnt sure has generated a lot of response. Thank you for invaluable information and being so willing to share experiences. We finally decided on a 3 pt hoe for the JD 955, reason... we finally looked at a #47 (comparable to the JD #7 hoe) that was attached to a tractor via full frame mount. We felt this setup went way beyond what we wanted to get into... very beefy. We preferred something small, less weight, easier to get in and out of very tight areas (will be using this mainly for landscaping). The dealer's main focus is on "weekend farmers and ranchers" which is the category we fall into. We decided on the Power King Mini 6000 (with "thumb"). Mark, closer to delivery, we will probably be taking a much closer look at your sub-frame mount system and will keep this board informed as to our progress. We will also continue to monitor the discussions here as the info provided by you all is better than any manufacturer site on the web.

It may be more simple than you think, most equipment has some form of safety interlock. Usually they will not crank unless they are in neutral, the clutch in and in gear it will not turn over. If it does not even crank then I would look for some such thing. If it cranks but will not fire check the mechanical feul kill, if it has one, since older large farm type tractors have ONLY this means of shut-down a lot of dealers/mechanics use it out of habit, but to forget/assume you will know. With this activated the pump will never deliver fuel to the injectors. Best of luck.

Yea, I'd like to keep it local but this is an insult. Like I said before, he really didn't know his PTO from a hole in the ground. I'll look into it more seriously when I sell my 1050. I know the 1050 is a great gear tractor but I don't need the backhoe anymore and it would be a shame to break it up.

I have a 4200 Hydro and there seems to be an excessive ringing/clanking noise coming from the rearend when at low rpm's or backing up. I have already had the new thrust washer installed. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this normal?

Is there a Kubota Plow that will fit the BX that has hydralic angle?<br>The dealer is telling me that the only one called out is the TG2754.<br>The dealer is not real interested in helping.<br>I heard that a 2763 (60" with hydralics) will fit the BX.<br>Can anyone help me?<br>Is the loader valving enough to run a hydralic blade, or is additional valving required?

Before I'd spend money on a full size backhoe, I'd consider a mini-excavator. I have 4 of them that I rent or hire out(also for sale). They're light enough to be pulled with a pickup, can dig trenches or clean ditches quickly due to fast positioning, & can fit in small places. Most have backfill blades for light grading. Everyone that has rented them , praise how well they work.
