Hi Brian, I am not sure how much help this will be but I recently pulled a relatively large disc and then a drag in wet hilly ground with my JD4100. It has turf tires. I have not pulled a plow with it but suspect I could. The turf tires did just fine until I got into areas where the ground was so wet that the pattern on the tread filled up with mud. I realize that working ground when it is that wet is not a good idea but we were pressed for time and were putting in feed plots at the hunting camp. I also pulled a 2 row corn planter without any problems.

I want to remove a tree that's down on my propery and it's 79 ft away on a hillside. The tree top is in a shallow stream and the root is on the hillside amongst other trees. So, I need a chain, tow line, cable or something that's around 100 ft. I can get a 5/16" chain that's 92 ft long. Will reach and says it's got 1200 lb capacity (FWIW).My question is how much to tree weight? How do I estimate? If I do screw up and break the chain will it become a leathal projectile? Any other suggestions on what to use instead of a chain?Thanks,Bob A.

I am glad to hear that the brackt mod on the front worked and I also want'd to try that . Then did you use the rear holes in the rear bracket? wouldnt it be nice if the tires were a little wider and mounted with a little less offset?

According to last year's THE BOOK (see below) that'd be a 1983 model (they started calling them 336-2 or -4 in 1984, to designate 2- or 4-wheel drive). Est. value of the tractor is $5980/$6440/$7150 in fair/good/premium condition. I'd estimate $2500-3000 on the value of the backhoe, but it depends a lot on the market.

I forgot to mention that tire style plays a role in the available width. Originally I had the R4's which I mounted in the "wide" position. My current turfs do not provide this feature. Well..I guess they could be off-set if you don't plan to use wheel weights. (They won't fit) As far as implement selection, most smaller compacts will require you to reverse the pins. The 4100 is no exception. Only one time was I faced with an old,old implement that I couldn't use because of 3pt hook-up width. This is only an issue if you intend or plan to use your neighbors stuff...like myself. If you will only be using implements you purchase...not a problem. Second issue when borrowing stuff, is that your neighbors might have bigger tractors, thus bigger implements. In my case, I used a 6' blade on my 4100. Obviously this is a bit much for the tractor, but a little patience and extra care & caution allowed me to do what I needed. AS far as overall size...Look in the archives for my whiney post in which I complain about my 4100 not being enough for a 2 acre property!! I guess I'm one of those guys who expects his lawn mower to be on par with a farm tractor..But thats another story. Next time I think I would seriously look at a Kubota 2910. Basically the same package size, with more beef stuffed in the middle. Lastly, the 4100 is plenty narrow for traversing hills.

Seems to be an awful lot of landscape talent on this board, so here's a question for you guys (and gals). I am trying to level out old tree stump holes, and a lot of uneven ground in sod. I have been trying to do this with a loader, a back blade, and a load of top soil. Not going well. How is a box scraper properly used and would this help? I also saw an implement that has a row of scarifiers and then a small roller with spikes comming out it. Are there other implements out there that would do a better job? The only thing that I have that seems to work is a wooden handled lawn rake, and that ain't gonna cut it.

If you refer to the manual that came with your 70A loader, there is a section that lists the expected cycle times for raising and lowering. As part of the original setup of the loader, a test should be performed, especially on lowering the boom. It is possile to replace the orifice in the line with a different one if the rate of descent is incorrect. All the details are in the manual, as are the specs for each of the cylinders. I'll have to test my loader to see if I can lift the front wheels off the ground with the boom alone. If I recall correctly I can (855, with 70A loader and 7 backhoe)

I live in New England and recently bought a TC29S FWD with live PTO, fold-down ROPS, deluxe 3 point hitch, engine heater, 7308 loader with HD 60" bucket, R4 tires, and calcium chloride in rear tires. Total price out the door (tax not included) was $14,900.I love my tractor!

Jerri. Sorry to say , but that dealership closed about 4 years ago. The items iI referred to were just trashed engine blocks that were headed to the scrap yard. Maybe they were melted down to make axles for John Deeres. Regards, Dave

checked my 'hog'...the words 'Bush Hog' are cast onto the right side of the gearcase. On the left is 'GS' and lower on the left is the number sequence 1 128 070 100 (I may have a zero missing)

What is prolly the model plate (1x2") is painted over.

Maybe my implements are lighter, but I think I'd find it easier to make small adjustments with a pry bar. Most of my implements are 500 - 600 lbs, and the bar levers implements on blocks around easily. My bar is about 5' x 1.25". It's also useful for breaking up rocks in postholes. In blocking implements, I try to keep them from tilting backwards when the top link is detached. It's sort of a pain to hook up an implement and then find the top link doesn't go long enough to make the attachment.

dealer called today and the new front end came in. I had decided to install my self and after 5 hours I have the console ready to reinstall, will finish tommorrow night. The axle came as complete assy with the new pump and steering control. Also there was step by step instructions. Also a new line was included as the pump is forward about 1/2 inch. Dealer said there was 170 other requests made at the factory. Well pleased with my dealer and front end is nifty. Hardest part is the control valve as it is close, also you have to disconnet the throttle. Dash assy is easy to remove. Don't think I'll have any problems....

I am from Iowa, a friend of mine works for Deere at the Waterloo Plant, his job is to soothe the really irritated customer in the agricultral market. He related a great customer service story to me. There was a large scale farmer that called to complain about his dealer not taking the greatest care when his units went in for service. This operator had 4 model 8400 series tractors and had just taken delivery of a new 5th unit. These are huge units, the guy farmed about 6000 acres. His major complaint was that his tractors came back from the shop with the paint all scratched off the bolts and these then rust. Why the hell didn't the dealer paint the things after servicing the machine. He also said something about a scratched hood on the new unit. When my friend contacted the owner of the dealership he said he was aware of the bolt problem and had taken steps to fix it, as far as the hood went.....he was very aware of that and had also fixed that. He then told my buddy about the hood. Seems cab headlight had been burned out at the time of delivery and nobody noticed it and the operator wanted it fixed. The owner of the dealership needed to make a run in the area of the farm so he would stop and fix the light. When he arrived, he hopped on the hood of the tractor and proceeded to replace the headlight. When he turned around the farmer was standing on the hood of his new Lincoln Navigator. He asked the farmer what he hell he thought he was doing and the farmer replied,"Which cost more, your Navigator or my tractor?" The dealer called the shop immediately and had a new hood at the farm and installed the next day. The shop now paints all bolts removed from any unit and also doesn't service headlights from the hood and this policy was posted in the mechanics lounge. That is how to teach a lesson.

Dont have a 1510 but do have 20 pto hp tractor (yanmar ym2000). Pull a 6 ft finish mower with no problem whatsoever but pulling a two bottom plow would be real interesting.

Just a note that my dealer was unaware of the problem and had not recieved anything from deere yet. He did say that such a letter generally indicates the fix is very simple and that if I had any problem to let him know and he would be happy to help. Now this is a dealer that contacted me that he had ordered and would replace my front axle (still on order), before I contacted him. I hope my faith in this notice as an easy fix is justified (come on Deere). All in all I like the tractor and would buy another one (with the new axle). my 2 cents.

When I first clicked on "Today" at the top of this page and say Bird Senter asking (I thought) whether NH vs. Kubota, I thought why is Bird Senter who has given a lot of good advice asking this question. Obviously he was answering with more good advice instead of asking the question. But I digress...
To add to his advice I would look at a lot of the pricing information before you go drive both (which you should). I recently bought a TC33D and did so because(among other things) I knew it was a good deal based on what I had read here.
Also, most people here will tell you that the tie-breaker between colors is the local dealer. I had a Kubota before the NH and like both. As a matter of fact, I started looking for Kubotas before I ended up with the NH. The Kubota parts are higher in general at the nearest dealer to me.
The other thing most people recommend is to get as much HP as you can afford. In my case I was about to settle on a TC29D and was able to get the 33D for $500 more. I thought it was worth it, but I may have been influenced by the dealer too.

My father has a 1949 Ford 8N that the rear axle/wheel seals leak on terribly. He has replaced them a few times, but the will start leaking again in very short order. And needless to say the rear brakes don't work great when covered with grease.Does anyone have a fix for this? New seals are not the answer it seems... I thought i read someplace that the 1950 model 8N's used a double, was this due to the leaking and would that seal work on that this tractor.Any suggestions are more than welcome.Thanks
