For what it's worth, I have seen many small Compacts which had the same problem, the usual solution was to reverse only ONE pin. That way the implement slides sideways onto both pins from the same direction, at the same time. Normally there is enough tolerance in the anti-sway linkage to accomplish this without physically moving the implement, just the arms. Best of luck.

The B2910 had some devices on the lift arms that extended so that you did not have to line the tractor up perfectly to hook up an implement. I only saw it in the brochure since I never was able to see a B2910. The NH TC29D also had this feature. I thought the L3010 had it, too, but I must be mistaken. I thought it was a nice feature.

Jeff M makes a good point with respect to the question of whether to purchase a 4000 tractor with the old style MFWD axle or wait for a tractor with the new axle. As with any purchase, we need to consider the price and if the dealer will drop the price on the tractor with the old axle then it may indeed be worth it. The point I have been trying to make is that unless there is a substantial price difference then the customer should go with the tractor with the new axle. I predict that as the word spreads throughout the land that Deere produced these tractors for a year and a half with a defective axle, that resale (and trade-in value) will be adversely affected if you own the tractor with the old axle. In the case of used farm equipment, when a tractor or other piece of equipment received a reputation as having problems the resale value plummeted. I think this could happen to the 4000 series tractors.

Andy it's to bad that you aren't in central N.Y. I just got three in yesterday one is sold the other two are currently open but will probably be sold by next week. If you are tall the 3010 does give you a little extra leg room. Look at your land and do an evaluation of size. Where you want to go, what you want to do,are there places that the smaller size might go easier?

gerard, sounds to me like you have 2710 like our friend Bird Senter there. The 2710 is a "potential" on my shopping list. How long ya had it?? How much and what kind of work have you done with it? Is it your first and only tractor? Are you as happy with yours as he appears to be with his??

I am considering a JD4300. One of the uses will be to pull out firewood and timber logs. I have seen the Farmi JL290 and Fransgard mV2800 logging winches. Has anybody used either of these with the JD4000 series, particularly the 4300? In addition, I would appreciate your thoughts on the need for chains or calcium chloride loaded tires with this tractor. My current tractor is a Ford 8N with loaded rear tires. The loaded tires helped quite a bit in the woods, but I've never owned a FWD tractor. It seems like the loaded tires would also help as a counter-balance when using the loader, and traction when plowing snow. Thanks for your input, Jim.

Steve, nice to hear the tools you spent so much hard earned cash on are working great for ya! Makes me wanna spend mine!*laughing* Do you have weights on your 4300? I was on a 4100 yesterday and all I could do with the front loader was pick up the front end of the tractor...probably just operator error...eh?

Bruce, glad to hear your problem was minor. I don't know where some of these dealers find their mechanics! I guess there is not enough repeat business in sales to warrant hiring a competent mechanic. Other than the joystick/hydraulics foul up...have you had any other issues with the 3010??

There is no problem. The summer blend doesn't produce as much power, but this isn't significant.

Rick, I recently purchased a tc29 with industrials. My previous machine had turfs with a loader and 60" mower. The turfs were great in the lawn and in snow. The only bad experience with them is that they are made to run at a low pressure and flatten out considerably with a full bucket. I went with the ind. this time because two dealers recommended them. I have the option of a free trade back for turfs if I don't like them in the lawn. Seems they are pretty sure of themselves. Maybe that is your answer. Buy where you can try.

IMHO, I would discourage mounting weights to the front rims. Looking a little deeper into things, you mentioned that you need to add front weights for rear ballasting purposes. No mystery here, simple law of balancing applies. 100lbs mounted to the frame will always provide 100lbs of opposing force to the opposite end of the frame. However, in this case because the front axle has a pivot point, it will act like a fulcrum. Therefore, if you divide the 100lbs onto each wheel...it is very possible for the rear of the tractor to only see 50lbs of additional opposing force... Reason being, and similar to what you would see at a tractor pull, although hopefully exaggerated. When the front end starts to "lighten" under load. Your front axle will start to pivot, eventually, and God forbid.. to where the weight inside one front wheel is mearly resting on the ground, while the other is slightly airborne. Hence the opposing force to the rear is approx 50lbs. Not until both wheels are in the air will you regain the 100lbs of opposing force..at which point I would hope you discontinue what you are doing. I'm sure some may think I'm going over the edge, but urge you to prove it to yourself with one of your kids tractors. If you hold one front wheel down while pushing down on the rear, the resistance isn't seen until the front limit of the pivot point is reached. Let us know how you make out, and Lots of luck :)

thanx for the quick response and info. Helps my understanding a little and why I haven't needed to change connection points yet as all I have is a box blade and york rake. Both lift with no problem and adjusting the length of my top link works for the angle on both.

Back in January I test drove 2 new 4400's on the same day at different dealerships. Neither had the newest axle design with the conventional tie-rod. One of these 4400's scuffed unacceptably (it was several months old) while the other 4400 was just fine (it had just arrived at the dealer that week). I was driving both on hard surfaces that had light snow cover so I could see any front tire lateral movement that would cause scuffing. I have a new 4400 on order but would suggest from my experience that NOT ALL the older 4400's had a scuffing problem. A buyer "might" be able to negotiate a better price on an "old" axle tractor, but be sure that you drive it first to ensure that it does not scuff unacceptably.

Eric, The seat alone is worth it!!! But they also cost more, I traded a 1220 for a TC25D, I very happy with it, you really have to look and drive both to come up with what your willing to put up or without with, there's so many things that are different (or) improved on the new TC line. Jerry

I built a brush guard for the front of my TC25D, I mounted it on the weight bracket and bent the mount peices so it goes out at an angle, so my hood opens fine. I think if you have a good welding shop in the area, they would be able to come up with something for alot less then retail one.

I had a 1220 Hydro without power steering, traded for a TC25D, I loved the 1220, but wanted a loader AND power steering, I know for a fact the 1220 had more power, I kept all my equipment and when I hookup to my 60" tiller the old 1220 had no problem, the TC25 works like mad! But I did discover if I use farm fuel (high sulfur) it has more power and smokes less. I,m very happy with the new one because of the great seat and operator area, the TC21 would be a great upgrade, but I think if I was going to do it over I would buy a new 1320 hydro, they come with power steering, for alot less MONEY!! Robert, I own a Boomer TC25D with a 72" belly mower, I haven't had any problems with the two point hookup, you can pin the deck in the up mode, and the two points work fine. I traded in my Ford 1220 with a 60" deck that mounted about the same way, although it was much easier to get on and off. The new tractor and mower deck are a real pain!!I take my deck off every time I'm done mowing, this got easier when I bought a loader, now I use the loader to raise the tractor,slide the deck in, then I drop the loader off and mow, then put the loader back on to remove the deck. I was disapointed because the old 1220 was very easy to change the deck, but I wouldn't go back because of the great job it does mowing, the supersteer is like having a zero turn mower, it's GREAT!!! I hope I haven't confused you, but no I haven't had any problems when I have left the deck on and used the three point for other equipment. Jerry
