I have a 2003 TC24 with less than 50 hours of use.
Aside from a endless list of wierd problems,
I have a major problem with the steering.

Do any of you know what could go wrong with the steering
on one of these? (9x3 manual geer shift TC24)
The simptoms are:
95 to 99% of the time the steering does not work
It just stopped working all together.
The steering wheel will go lock-to-lock with no action at the front wheels. It feels like the pump is avitating or something. Little to no feed-back in the wheel.

If the tractor sits for 5 minutes the steering will work for about 15 seconds.

RPM doesn't seem to effect the steering (bad or good).

I checked the hydraulic fluid and it is full and clean.
No problems with the operation of the F.E.L.

I don't know what to do.
Unfortunately I bought this tractor out of state, and I'm not sure how the local dealer will handle the warrenty issue since I didn't buy the tractor from him.

Any suggestions would be a great help.

Thank you
Todd Hedges

I think that it is time to find out how your local dealer will react to your tractor. I don't think it will hurt to much. ....

cobra,
I agree with Art...you are going to have to "belly up to the bar" and see what your dealer will do. I suspect if the proper approach is taken he will help.

I don't know about your machine but my TC33D uses a separate reservoir and pump for the steering so checking the operation of the FEL and 3PH is irrelevant.

Todd,

Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose when buying from a far away dealer and it appears that you definitely came up snake eyes this time.

I agree with the others. Be honest and admit your mistake and ask for his help. If he's a good business man, he'll help you. If he doesn't, the only alternative is the District or Regional NH rep.

Good Luck.

cobra, if you are turning the steering wheel and the tires arnt turning then the pump/hydrolics arnt the problem. open the hood and watch the steering shaft.the shaft connects to the steering box with a u-joint or rag joint or a splined shaft( im not a tractor mech.) make sure the box is turning with the shaft. it could be as easy as a missing lock bolt that vivrated loose. dlc ....

If it's like my TC33D then there is no steering shaft or steering box like in a pick-up truck. It is steered all by hydraulics. A hydraulic cylinder moves the steering linkage. It sounds like you are low on power steering fluid and it is getting airated. When you let it sit some of the air settles out of the fluid. If it is low....fill it and keep rechecking it because it will take a while to get all the air out. ....
