A recent post about how to address warranty problems got me thinking about the support equipment needed to keep a tractor running.

I thought it might be helpful to prospective compact owners to consider what some of us have in the garage along with the tractor.

MUST HAVES:
an air compressor,
tire pressure gauge,
a floor jack,
jack stands,
some system to transport and dispense fuel,
a set of BIG crescent wrenches,
a socket set with a minimum 1/2 inch drive,
a grease gun,
a long pry bar,
jumper cables or battery charger,
a large supply of rags.

NEED ACCESS TO:
Pick-up truck or tow vehicle,
a two axle flat bed trailer.

NICE BUT NOT NECESSARY:
a pressure washer.

What do you guys think?

That's a good list. I'd add a torque wrench to it, as well as a tire pressure gauge approved for fluid filled tires if necessary.

A pressure washer is a MUST-HAVE in our area. Over the weekend we were working in sticky, heavy mud and we must have washed off 50 lbs of mud (literally!). It took an hour with the pressure washer and probably would have taken three times that long with a hose and spray nozzle. ....

A couple more things to add to the list.

- A service manual for your tractor brand & model
- A multimeter to check battery voltage, diagnose seat safety switches, etc.

I would add:
some plastic pans for draining oil and holding parts;
inexpensive volt meter for checking voltage and continuity.

Maybe a comfortable couch or camp cot to sleep on, for when the wife finds out how much it actually all cost.....

For those long, trying, escapades sitting behind the wheel of our favorite color on a hot summer's day, I recently realized just what I have been missing for all these years...I recently gutted my dashboard, and installed a DVD player with screen and quadrophonic headphones for surround sound experience while tilling those big jobs. I carry my "favorite beverage", (I am with you Billy P), in my cup holders, and when I get the munchies, I lean over and grab some freshly made popcorn from the radiator tray. A must for every tractor-holic. I've got it all worked out! ;)

Definitely the torque wrenches, manuals, & volt meter like Ken said as well as the above mentioned. I would want some air impact guns, air ratchet, 6 pt. impact socket & swivel socket set, prying and alignment bars, tap and die sets, easy outs, a good stereo/CD player, and a killer pin up calender! I think the pressure washer, a welder and sound proof walls are must haves too. ;-) I still need to work on my welding and the occasional verbal slip up. ....
