I just got a price on a JD 4200 that seems a bit high:JD 4200 with hydro, mid PTO, dual control valve, 4WD and turf tires for $14,600.Does anyone have something similar? Is the 4300 worth the extra money?Any feedback is appreciated!

Hey GregFirst off I don't want to get into a brand war, but you asked if someone had something similar. Did you mean similar in JD or model? If model I am purchasing a Kubota B2710. It is 27 hp with hydro, 4WD, and turf tires. Looking at the brochures I have from JD and Kubota the 4200 and B2710 are very similar. One difference is fuel, the 4200 is 10 gal. the B2710 is 6.9 gal. They both have 20 hp (hydro) at the PTO. The Kubota is 4 cyl. and the JD is 3 cyl. There is other minor ways they are alike and not alike, but I don't want to write a book. One difference for me was the weight difference. You are interested in turfs so I will assume you are mowing alot of acreage? I am, so I opted for the lighter Kubota at 1700 lbs. The 4200 is 2675 lbs. If you're doing alot of ag work you may want the JD for the weight and traction. Anyway I'll pay $14,500 for the Kubota with a LandPride 72" finish mower.Good luck, I know it's a tough decision! ....

Greg,I bought a new 4200 Hydro w/ 420 loader and 60" mid mount mower. Tractor was about 13,500 as I recall, the total package was a few bucks over 18,000. I'm in OK and most all of the posts I've seen so far have been higher than mine so I think I got a really good price. My tractor is my primary finish mower but I also needed a front loader. One of the reasons I went with the JD was the front loader is so easy to get on and off. The main reason that's important is I didn't want the extra weight when mowing the front lawn (3-4 acres). The R-3 turfs seem to work well and not tear up the lawn. Make sure you're in 2WD and I wouldn't finish mow if the ground was real wet. The R-3's have worked pretty well in the mud and slop where I'm having a pond built. If you get a loader, make sure you at least get a ballast box(my dealer gave me one!) Hope this helps. ....

Greg,I bought a 4300, delivered in March. 12/12 sync reverser,4wd, folding ROPS, mid PTO, 420 loader, R4 tires --- $16550 + tax If I had to do it again I would probably opt for the HST - even with the 12/12 there is alot of clutching if your using the loader. At the time of purchase I think the HST was around 1k more. ....

I went with the 4300 also after conversing via email with a few people through this and other groups, I got the feeling that it was worth the extra $ to get the extra HP. The machine should be here this week, I hope.I got the 4300 HST, mfwd, folding ROPS, R4, loader, backhoe, power beyond [for the hoe], 72" belly mower for $26,000. Not sure if it is a great price, but it was the best I found around here and the dealer is 10 miles away. I also got a quote from someone off of this board who would ship from either Tenn or Ark and it was something like $25,750 plus shipping. No break-out on the prices though, sorry. The quote I got for the 550 tiller was $2100. Not sure how good a deal that is.Doug ....

KJC,That's exactly where I got the JD 4200 quote for exactly the same tractor. I was trying to find out if that price is good. Many of the responses I got said I could do better. What do you think? Is Whelan a good dealer that might justify paying a slightly higher price? Thanks! ....

KJC,Did you buy your JD 4200 from Whelan's? Are you happy with the tractor and dealer? I'm in Manchester (closer to Clinton) and plan on using the machine year round. Are you going to use it to move snow?Thanks- ....

I am close to closing on the purchase of a 4200 4WD, hydro, F-ROPS, mid PTO,R4,DSCV with a 420 Loader/grill and ballast setup etc and 50 hr free service. Have a quote of $18,500 for the package from local Dealer #1 and have not found the local dealers in Calif to be willing to come down as low as mentioned by some inputs on this forum. Other local (40 miles) Deere dealer #2 quoted $19,625 and would not deal futher. I will also be buying around a 50" tiller. Dealer only carries Gearmore Tillers and I have not looked into how good they are, but quote was $2340 for a 53". Tiller quote was probably close to List Price. dealer carries I am still pondering a 4300, it could be nice power jump (5.5 PTO over 4200) for a small additional price. ....

Well, I'm back. But this time, I can say I bought a tractor. I called a local JD dealer today asking for directions when he told me just got a JD 4200, hydro, 4WD and 420 loader as a "trade-in" on a garden tractor. The machine only has 10 hours on it. The 3-point hitch hasn't been used. Anyway, after a long "discussion" we settled at $15,600 for the package. I figure I saved around $1,500 on the package based on local prices and posts on this site. It's tough to get a good deal at this time of year with the parking lot full of customers... ....
