After running the tractor for about an hour I stopped to unload some plants from the loader. Knowing I was going to be getting on and off alot I pushed up the steering column forword and the tractor died. The temp & batt. light work but no go. Checked connections, looked for pinched wires, nothing. Put the ign to run and jumpped the starter, got back to the house and it wont shut off ! I stalled it and here I am. HELP. please.
thanks Ed

By cannon do you mean multi-connection plugs? If so I pulled as many as I could get to (most of them )sprayed with elect burnisher and reconnected. no moisture anywhere.
Funny it should go down when I move the steering column.
Even funnyer... I didnt start when I put it back ! Hell I had to try. :-) ....

Did you check to see if you had any wire bundles rubbing anywhere. Sure does sound like a short caused by a pinched wire or one that has had its insulation worn through. These kind of problems can be exhasperating to find. ....

Lets start simple first.

1. Check the fuses in the fuse panel. There are fuses there that won't let the engine crank and also, won't let the engine shut off.
2. Check the seat switch wires for a pinched wire, sometimes they get caught under the seat linkage. Also, check behind the dash, the safety circuit wires sometimes get caught up in the brake return springs.

If the tractor wont crank it makes it sound like there is a ground out in the saftey circuit. The PTO switch or the range switch, or the foward reverse lever if the tractor is new enough could be the problem due to if any of them are engaged you won't get power to the starter from the key.

If you have any more info let me know. ....
