L2250,
My best guess would be that you are low on fluid. At least, this is the first thing to check.
When your fluid level is low, your pump will have a difficult time raising your three-point hitch, and may also may some very strange noises.
It is not good to run your tractor if your hydraulic fluid is low. You could easily destroy the pump.
If you discover that your fluid level is low, simply add the proper amount and run your tractor at low RPMs while the fresh fluid circulates through your hydraulic system. Put your loader through it paces, as well as your three-point. This should clear your system of any trapped air.
If you run at high RPMs while the air is in the system, you could cause cavitation in your pump, which is very abrasive.

Was the filter a Kubota? What hydraulic oil is in the tractor? Is it UDT? Has the hitch been used much in the past? ....

Do you have rear remotes? If yes, check that the control lever is not actuated (stuck in position). When my blue does this I check the lever (depending how far the levre is actuated it'll put the system into bypass and makes the 3pt very slow or not work at all) ....

It sounds like at some point the 3pth may have been severely overloaded, this would cause either the seals in the lift cylinders or the 3pth control valve to fail, resulting in exactly the problem described.
The weakness is caused by fluid leaking past the failed seal.
That is why the 3pth drops so fast you can watch it go down.
Best of luck. ....

Murf, your at it all the time! There has to be a noticable leak in the valve or cylinder in order for this to be that severe. ....

I've seen older Fords have lift pistons that had holes beaten into them from wear. Have not seen or heard about this in contemporary machines though. ....

I've seen it on smaller CUT's like this.
It usually results from an overloaded 3pth that experienced a massive shock load.
A good example would be carrying a heavy bush hog mower up in the air while roading it at a high rate of speed and hitting a bump. Say goodbye to the lift cylinder seals!! ;)
Best of luck. ....

Murf, thats one of the reasons I like the newer design farm tractors as well as compacts. The new ones use external cylinders instead of having them designed into bulky castings that if and when they get scoured need replacing are VERY expensive to repair not only in their cost but the labor to do it. They started doing this about ten years ago on the smaller farm tractors(Steigers and articulated tractors is where it came from)in the 100 to 300 horsepower size and they have been building them into the smaller ones. There are many good things that have and are being added to the tractors to improve their overall performance not just bells and whistles. ....
