Thanks for all the feedback. Friday I'm taking delivery of my L 3430 HST C. The only thing that I wanted that it does'nt have is the quick release bucket. He said that it makes the bucket sit further out and that he likes the way it operates with out it. Is it something that I can easily add in the future? Any additional coments and feedback is welcome.

If you want the quick attach bucket I would insist on it to your dealer. It only adds a few inches (2-3). It is easy to add in the future but you'll probably have to buy a new bucket along with it. I would recommend that you buy it the way you want it the first time. The dealer does work for you. ....

I would demand it before taking delivery. You wont be able to sell the original bucket to easy & the quick attach bucket has to be over $600. Why waste money? I think the dealer wants to unload it because he knows if he doesnt soon, he'll be stuck with it because everyone wants the Quick attach. ....

I agree. Do not buy without quick attach. The dealer is trying to do the greasy salesman routine on you. You will always wish you had it and the future cost may prevent you from going ahead and getting it later. ....

Thanks again for the help. I called the dealer today and ordered the quick attatch. The thing is, this is my first tractor, I'm a mechanical guy but I do'nt know what I need in a tractor. I did a lot of homework so I hope I'm making the right decision with this package.
What kind (%) of depreciation can I expect per year? Assuming average use on a well maintained machine. ....

In my opinion, pto driven log splitters are not the best way to go. For around $800 you can buy a tow behind standard 5.5 - 6 hp. log splitter and rack up the 100's of hours on the log splitter and not your tractor. I put about 50 hours a year on my log splitter and have owned it for about 10 years. All depends upon how you view that wear and tear on your tractors and the hours the log splitter will add. ....

I am not fond of the pto version either and the hours is just one reason.
2HL --50 hours per year-- are you in the firewood business?
I usually figure it takes me about 1.5 hours to split a full 4x4x8 cord, and 10 cords per year, about 32-35,000 pounds of wood. My fire runs 24/7 october - march ....

I am heating or should I say trying to heat about 4600 square feet and the ranch house which we bought this year uses a Clayton force hot air wood heat too. I sell a little here and there when I am feeling alright. ....
