Any thoughts on what to do with the bucket level indicator. Have seen some that were cut off right where the bucket level would be and some that extend 8 to 10 inches beyond and are marked with paint where bucket level is. Mine still extends and has not been marked or cut for bucket level. Is this feature really that useful anyhow? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I thought of cutting it with a hacksaw. Did you use a torpedo level or just find level ground to set it down before cutting. What if any examples can you share your uses for the indicator that visual line of sight may not give you. ....

Mine was installed by the dealer. They leveled the bucket and cut the rod about 6" above the tube. They then painted the top 6" of the rod a flourescent red color. I like this setup because you get an indication of level as well as how much up or down. ....

even though i only had a small jd855 with a 70a loader
i guess i got lucky. mine was angled both the tube and the rod
and when they matched i was perfectly level

seems maybe the dealer did not either set it up or im thinking of the jd loader and you folks have another brand and now im confused. (it dont take much nowadays) :)

either way as suggested i would level the bucket. make sure indicator is mounted correctly and trim it to where it will be a help to the operator.

wear them goggles or safety glasses when using cutoff tool. better yet wear them both. ....

My Dealer painted the top end JD yellow, it won't tell you the bucket is dead flat, but it's real close. Mine is on the 430 loader on the 4410. Frank. ....

After having the tractor for several years, I just added a level indicator. I painted the top six inches bright red to show when the bucket is level. I find it really useful when you want to load up piled material without digging in such as in a yard. ....

I've used a white paint pen and have painted circular stripes. I need to repaint them every now and then cause it wears off. I've made a single circle for level and then two circles for slight digging/optimum digging. That's worked well for me over the years. ....

Cutting the rod flush is a little too permanent for me. I use the contrasting paint on my my 4115.

In the past I have filed a small notch at the level mark and filled it with paint. ....

I found it much handier to have an extention past level and mark the rod. A "level" bucket is not necessarily level to the ground, it's relative to the tractor and the slope you're working on. ....

Mine is laying in the back of my pickup all bent to hell. It doesn't seem very compatible with logging and branches.

Thanks to all!!! Looks like I'll just keep the rod extended and get some JD yellow to mark level. By the way (Hardwood) seen your tractor pictures, how do you like the hard top canopy mounted on your ROPS. Do you find it adequate for sun protection and how is it in the snow?? ....

palusjoshua; I got the canpopies early this spring so never had them in them snow. I really like them for sun protection and occasionly rain protection. I got them from Deere, the noise level did increase over a non canopy tractor so it was a simple matter to put a sheet of one inch cab foam on the under side to solve that problem. Frank. ....
