We built a new house with 5 acres land, the main need is a tractor that can finish mow 3, rough cut the balance. FEL for putting in a walk, filling in hole and lumps in yard. Use it to punch holes for FEnces posts, and general landscape use... Land is rolling shallow hills with few trees at the moment. The JD 2210/K 7500 is pushing the price limits but hate to underbuy. Is tis small loader really useful? I used a NH TC40 to backfill and just wonder if the 2210/7500 will be too small? A friend of the family that has a MF 35Hp warns me that this tractor is too small for any loader work. Additionally even the advertising for these small loader show it basically doing trailer work. I am hoping It can be used to at least scrape a pathway then fill path with sand and gravel as basis for a walk, built a small burn, work with a box scrrapper to do some minor topsoil grading, pull a rock picker, pull a racker behind to help tear up embeded grass (yard was an old farm field). I was thinking 60" mmm mower for the cutting. Any Advice would be appreciated, I hate to under buy, but the cash for the 4110 is going to be very hard to justify. Thanks

I just purchased a JD 790 with FEL and just love it! It is of course a no thrills tractor - but I have the HP to pull a decent box blade and rake, not to mention pull out a few tree stumps. You'd be getting a bit more tractor for your $$. I paid just over $14k for 4X4 tractor, FEL, and a rear blade.

Just another thought for you to toss around. ....

I've been doing pretty much all of what you're planning on doing with the 2210. I figured that it would do the jobs that I had planned..landscaping & all the related tasks..and it did better than I really expected, and it's a great mower.

I think that the 2210's biggest difference with the 4110 are the wheels & tires..and some bells & whistles. Mark could certainly add to that observation. So, ground clearance and 3ph lift height is less with the 2210. ....

I'd spend a few minutes on one in a dealers yard and see how good you can be at operating the units. The BX is the comparable to the 2210 and equally fit and more compact. Your tasks that you have stated can be done with them but it is a matter of time. The larger machines might do it faster but there are trade offs. ....

I was at the dealers yesterday. I actually prefer the JD's to the kubotas from a operation and comfort factor.. The 2210 is being priced at 11,019 w/ fel 60mmm and tractor, the 4110 is approx 15500, the kub 7500 is coming it at 13900. I like the 2210 and like the price, at least better then the other two, but stiil getting feedback from those around me to buy just a regular mower and some old mf or ford for loader work because the 2210 is a "toy" . I hate the idea of proving them right. Is the Loader useful on the 2210? Additionally the 2210 is weight limited on 3ph compared to the others. Any issues with the 2210 limited 3ph and a post hole auger? Has anyone noticed this as a problem? Deere has a 30 day trial i guess i might consider the 2210 thn make sure that it does what I need? but still worried about under buying. Should I potentially be looking for a 4000 series level in a few year old package instead? If I was looking for used what woudl I find for the 11k price of a new 2210? Thanks for all the help, I am trying to get this done as the mud filled yard is finally thawing out and there is a lot of work to do. ....

I've been using my 2210 for about 6 months now, and really enjoy using it. The 3ph issue/question seems to be the deciding factor in moving "up" to a 4000 series. The lift height and weight are very different. Seems like it is hard to find a PHD or BH for the 2210--and if you do, likely to be aftermarket and pretty small/limited in usefulness. I decided that my primary use was like yours--finish mowing about 60%, and bush hog the rest, for this the 2210 is great. Really comfortable, easy to use (and even though it is bigger than the 425 I had, still doesn't scare the missus TOO much). If you really NEED to use a PHD and BH for landscape stuff--look at a bigger machine, if you can live with using the FEL to drive posts/stakes (I know it's a little risky, but look in the archives for some other comments on this) then this would be a good choice. I have used the FEL for snow removal (driveways only about 150') and moving some topsoil--no problems with load sizes, but I didn't care if it took an extra trip or two--gave me extra seat time. ....

The lift capacity on the 2210 is sufficient for it's bucket capacity. It has the power to lift 5 cu. feet of soil and that is what the bucket holds.

If you are planning a lot of PHD time a taller tractor might be a better buy. Don't overlook a small TLB package like the BX23. You don't need a PHD if you have a backhoe with a 10" bucket. That PH auger will get deflected or stalled on buried rocks that the BH can just scoop out. ....

I have owned deeres and now a kubota.
Your not quite comparing apples to apples on size wise.
JD Kubota
2110 BX2230, BX1500
4010 B7410
4110 B7510
4115 B7610
4210 B7800

The BX23 doesn't have a match since JD doesn't build a Subcompact TLB. The Smaller tractors can do the work it will just take longer. The limited 3pt hurts on the posthoe digger. Plus the small tractors can only handle 9" bits. The B7500 is a great tractor i have one. But its small for my use. A couple of thousand more for a larger tractor over the life of the tractor ends only up being $20 to $100 more a month. So a couple extra hours of overtime at the office will end allowing you to do the same job in the less amount of time. So work more, play less but bigger toy. Or Less work, more play but smaller toy. ....

c5er, your question about the FEL on a subcompact is a good one. I had a subcompact with a FEL and had fun with it, but found it somewhat limiting. If you did get a full, or close to full bucket, it seemed like the machine was working real hard to deal with it. It was handy for moving things around the property, but wasn't a good tool for moving piles of dirt or gravel. The difference with the CUT I have is amazing. Didn't know how easy it should be to scoop a good bucket of stuff from a pile. If you have a lot of loader work to do, move up to the CUT. ....

Sorry for my ignorance on the subject but is a kub 7510 or JD 4110 considered SUb compact or compact? Additionally some of these tractors can have multiple loader choices. for instance the 7510 can have a la 272 or 302 laoder on it, the 302 has more lift capacity then the 272... I understand the loader difference could affect lift but thought the hp limit of the tractor would be more of a limiting factor? I am really in a confused state as to what to get. SHould it be a 4K ZAG mower the some olf MF or ford for loader and 3ph, which is about the same cost as a 4110. The zag will mow better and the tractor will do tractor stuff better. At the same time I hate to have this big hulking tractor sitting around. FInding a used CUT is almost impossible arounf here. Its either new or 25 years old. ....

The categories are confusing at best, especially when you find a sub-CUT that has more horsepower and capability than a CUT.

General rule of thumb, I guess, is the size of the wheels. If it comes with 12 inch rims on the back it is considered a sub-CUT. If the rear rims are at least 15 inches then it is a CUT.

It may weigh less and have less power than the Sub-CUT but the wheel size seems to be the dividing line. ....

There is no one machine that does it all.
If you have a faily level lot, then the
smaller tires would be fine. The 2210 is
a fine tractor. How many post holes can a
guy need? Rent one.
I chose the 7500 for the
extra clearence. What will be your primary
use? Mine was mowing, blowing, and moving some
dirt around.
You will always have something to do that will
make you wish you had a different machine.

I have been back tothe dealers and tested the 2210 and kub 7510, I think the jd is a much more comfortable tractor with the following difference: 3ph is limited to 700lbs vs 1300 for kub, lift on fell is about 100lbs less, and the clearance issue. What will the 3ph limitation stop me from doing? The loader I am concerned about, i am not sure that all this money is worth two wheel barrow trips? But a 60"mmm and fel/tractor is 11k for 2210 abd 13.9k for the 7510. another 1K if i bump it to a 7610 with a bigger loader? I also worry that it might be easy to bend the liht duty fel of the 2210? As far as fencing i hav about 2100 feet of old wood poled fencing that needs to be pulled out and replaced ....

One more question. the jd 2210 uses a suspended mower while the kub 7510 uses a drag on the ground mower deck. Any difference in how they cut. i figure th tractor is 60% mowing 25%fel an 15% 3ph ....

c5er - We have 5 acres and just went thru the same concerns. I beleieve that if you check the capacity of 2110 vs 4010 you'l find the little one picks about 80 more pounds. Trying to rememember how I came across that.

We went with the B7510 w/LA302 FEL. Don't go 7510 w/out 302. We boiled it down to JD 4010 and the B7510. Both great machines as you already know. The deciding factor for us was the visibilty of the loader from seat. 80% ofour use is FEL and dont want me or the wife to run into our 100 yr old barn.

Go somewhere that carries green ones and orange ones. Sit on a 4010 and operate the bucket. Get off, sit on 7510 and operate bucket. You'll see what I mean.

The sub-CUT do not have the ground clearance needed for us.
You may want to read my post from 2/16 'orange vs green..my personal opinion only'.

good luck have fun

The jd4110 replaced the 4100, which is what I have. I put on a FEL and have been able to do anything I wanted to with the 20hp diesel engine & 4 wheel drive. Granted, it might take longer than a 50 hp tractor would, but look at the difference in price for the tractor & loader. I also have a 60" mid mount mower & 4' cutter. I have 4.5 acres & it does fine. Would like an ac cab, but the power might not be enough for that. Considering selling my tractor & getting a larger one ONLY because of the ac. Have chronic sinus problems. Do belive you would be sorry if you buy anything smaller than the 4100 or 4110 for any loader work. ....

I can tell you first hand that the 3-point on the sub-compacts will be limiting. I went through a very expensive ordeal unloading a sub-compact for my 7800 because I just could do much with the 3ph. Implements are special order and some things just won't work because of the limited lift height. It's the short lift height more than the lift capacity that will limit what you can do with the tractor. Go with the compact, 7510 orange would be a good choice. ....

Wow, $11,019 for a 2210, FEL, and 62"? MMM. The closest I could get to that was $12,800, and that dealer went out of business. The current price I can get is $13,000.
