Personally, I don't think I'd want to re-invent the wheel.

The Italians have some excellent equipment, both wheeled & tracked, which was designed & proven based on MANY years of doing exactly what you are looking to do.

Best of luck. ....

Murf; FYI The McCormick is an Italian machine that might be sold locally. I guess we are saying the same thing, but approaching it differently. ....

Peters, I missed that.

I was thinking more of the 'traditional' units like those by Ferari, Lamborghini, Goldoni, Carraro, Grillo, ROC, and many others that are widely available in NA in areas where there are lots of vineyards or orchards.

Best of luck. ....

Peters,
I used the link you had and did not find crawlers. Is it me? Are all McCormicks made overseas? For some reason I thought they were at least some made here.
I have been told all flail mowers come from Italy. I know what brochures I have seen show vineyards. ....

Murf;

I don't have any of the other Italian dealers close and have really never seen them, but do have a McCormick dealer over by Cullman AL and thought they would be more widely distributed.
The McCormick link is below. It is hidden in the grounds care. ....

Just curious but why would a tracked tractor be better than a wheeled tractor in a vinyard? ....

Two reasons mostly, first in southern Europe a lot of the vineyards are on hillsides so steep you can hardly walk up them, they are terraced, but you still have to go up & down the same amount.

Secondly, and most importantly, crawlers spread the weight out over a MUCH larger area, so they don't compress the soil over the root systems, as an added bonus, tracks are not nearly as tall as tires, so they can be built closer to the ground, both for stability, and to prevent damage to the branches by going under them.

Best of luck. ....

ALL McCormicks are made overseas. McCormick originally came out of the old IH plant in England, which they are now closing down. The others are built in Italy in the Landini/ARGO factories. ....
