Morning, this is kind of a follow up to my previous post about moving my back blade around. I am going with the suggestion of adding a Selector Valve. Then have brackets welded on the blade to mount a Hydraulic Cylinder as suggested earlier also. Long winded, but my local tractor dealer wants $525.00 for a 16"HC with hoses. Question, does this sound like a fair price?

Thanks
Bill

Wow !! Gold plated or what? Don't know what type end connectors you're needing, but I'm sure you can get something satisfactory for a helluva lot less than $525. Try http://baileynet.com/index.php?page=Search&id=14&srchsrc=SearchBox&sbmfrmas=Submit&baileynum=%222+x+6+%22+%22Hydraulic+Cylinders%2C%22 for example. And if the size you want isn't there, just click on the link below - and put in the bore and stroke you're needin'. No hoses of course, but you can have a pair made up locally for $20

If that doesn't provide an off-the-shelf cylinder that suits you, I've got an acquaintance that will build to spec at a very reasonable price. Contact him via brian (at) fitritehydraulics (dot) com

Afternoon Greg, thanks much for the reply and information. I will give Bailey a call Monday. They seem to have a lot of product. I did not see the type of ends that I have now welded eyelet style. If they cannot do that I will give your friend a shout.
What would your opinion be, I am thinking a 14 or 16 inch tube. With a 2 inch shaft should be able to push and pull my back blade around its kind of heavy. Any suggestions pro or con?

Thanks
Bill ....

Do a search for blades with hyd cyls on them already and see what they are using. Would be a good starting point to me. Do post pictures. Might talk me into it also. ....

Look at the online hydraulic places that sell parts for snowplows, the one way cylinders for angling them sounds like what you're looking for. You run them one pushes open, one gets forced closed by the other one, on a standard valve.

They are $99 each.

Best of luck. ....

Without actually seeing your project, I can't really offer anything more than generalities. But if you're mounting as I suspect, I think you'd be in the right range with a 10" cylinder. Factor in the ends you're in 15"-16" eye-to-eye (retracted) territory.

But a 2" ram would be overkill in my book. Even my Cat 2 HTL is only a 3" cylinder with a 1.5" ram. I'm thinkin' no more than a 2.5" cylinder, and I wouldn't go over 1.25" on the ram. You can probably actually get by with a 2" cylinder and a 1" ram. Reason being, the max extended length will short; maybe 8" or so. The shorter the extension, the more stress it can handle. Besides, I'm thinkin' you'll seldom extend the ram more than 50% anyway.

Greg, when I talk to Bailey on Monday I will run my numbers by them. I am thinking your spot on, I have a habit of doing the overkill thing with stuff? I was just going by what my top link HC is 3.5 by 12 inchs. If I do not need all that smaller will help keep the costs down.

Hi all a follow up to my Hyd Cly project for my back blade. I purchased a 16" HC from FiteRiteHyd which Greg had suggested. I have it mounted and it works like a charm. Still working on getting the selector valve set up but for now I am using the tilt lever since I really do not need it for my grading project. Thanks Bill ....
