Not an owner of either brand in tractor but it would be my thought the JD will be better option long term. I think JD makes that size tractor themselves while MF contracts out all models is my understanding.

At least here the JD also has resale value better if that might ever be important. ....

I have Deere, but not that size and no experience with Massey. My Deere experience has been good in both compacts and full size farm tractors seven and eight thousend series from our farming past.
KT is correct on resale, Deere is king here, but a good strong Massey dealership will buld good reasle in that community also.

Buck;
Sorry, I've never heard of a Simpson engine, but that don't mean much.
Where does a Simpson engine come from?
There are lots of things I haven't heard of.

I have also been looking at the John Deere 5045D -5055D, and Massey Ferguson 2600'series.. Massey Ferguson,and Simpson have been partners since like the 60's I believe, I don't know in which model of tractors they may have used them though.Perkins has been the engines Massey Ferguson has used in the past,that have such a rep. Massey Ferguson is owned by Agco,and Agco is a Global competitor. Massey Ferguson claims to sale the most equipment. I don't know. I understand Global quality is higher than Regional, or National, and Agco is a Global company,so Simpson has to meet certain qualifications to be good enough for Massey Fergson,or Agco to use them. I would say this isn't an issue, though Yanmar has a reputation. I like them both. ....

India sales more tractors than the USA, Massey Ferguson is in a joint partnership with TAFE, which is an Indian tractor company. Simpson engines are built in India, but this doesn't mean Simpson isn't any good. There are a lot of Tractors in India, and John Deere,and New Holland both have production plants in India. They are Global markets, not just American, and Perkins gave liscensed engine plans,and blue prints to Simpson, to produce engines for them,as I understand it,this began in the late 50's. Simpson is basically Perkins in design, they are just manufactured in India, under the name Simpson, as I also understand it. This doesn't mean they aren't of the same reliablility,and quality as Perkins. The engines are likely built out of the same material,just assembled by Indians in a plant, instead of Europeans,or Americans. Yanmar is Japanese, so it is sort of the same. Remember they are Global competitors,so Global quality must be set. ....

Corporations,and Businesses have to compete on a Global scale, and have to meet Global standards. Though money is one of the obvious reasons, why cheap labor costs are a part of the business. A business in this day,and time sort of has to regardless, to be able to compete in a Global market. A company trying to sale, a product someone else can offer cheaper, is likely to have more sales, even if quality isn't as good. If a company can offer the same product cheaper, of the same quality, then the other company that has to charge more, because of more expensive labor costs, is forced to outsource jobs to cheaper laboring,and manufacturing plants, to remain competitive in a Global Market.If manufacturing jobs where to return to America, American's wanting more pay, would no doubt result in more expensive products, and people would complain.Better Quality, higher paying jobs, will result, in more expensive living..their seems to always be a price,or catch.. ....

I hear the John Deere's have lite rearends, does anyone know the facts ? The rear ends seem to be pretty heavy. I understand that the JD 5045D overall curb weight is about 100lbs heavier, than the MF 2605.The MF 2605 is 38hp 32PTO and the JD is 45hp 37PTO, I don't know the torque ratings of the JD,though.Something I noticed about the John Deere, I didn't seem to like, is where the fuel tank is located (right behind the seat)The MF has a higher Lift capacity than the JD, by about 300lbs in the 2605-2615 models. The MF 2605 doesn't have diff lock, but the JD 5045D does. Limited Slip is sometimes better, as I also understand it.Both models are manufactured in India. ....
