You never know. I'd email and ask for the serial number and see what kind of response you get. Sometimes a family member sells stuff without knowing what it's worth, other times it's stolen, and other times they want a cash deal - you show up with cash and they knock you over the head (or worse) and take it. ....

Hardwood, try setting a time and location to show up with trailer to buy and haul it home. See if machine suddenly is in another state ready to be shipped.

If they give a location and date, being careful as Ken has pointed out you could scout it out early or even call the local police to ask about the area.

By the way, I just looked and could not find it. ....

A month or so ago there was a Ford/NH like fourty horse compact again with every possible option with hardly any hours for a ridiculous low price. It was there for just a short time then a merssage something about the ad being removed by a moderator.
I get a kick out of the free stuff ads. anybody need a free cement slab, non working washing machine, we got em here in CR. Buyer beware I guesss. ....

If you surf across the various CraigsList sites all across the nation you will see the same sort of ads.

Sometimes they are for tractors, other times cars, boats, snowmobiles or RV's.

The story is almost always the same, a) need to sell before (soon to be wife) gets it in the divorce, b) need to sell fast to stave off foreclosure of the house, c) in the military and fighting in Iran or Afghanistan and need money for family back home.

Note the limit is almost always below $5,000 which allows for credit card or Western Union money transfer.

Reply to the ad, ask specific questions, you will get a poorly written reply by email telling a sob story and in no way related to, or answering, the questions you asked.

Best of luck. ....

I did buy a ridiculiously low priced six inch jointer for the woodshop this spring. Everythging seemed legitimate, real nice machine, so I bought it. I already have an eight incher, but just couldn't resist a bargan. The owner said he bought a bigger one and didn't have room for both, OK???? ....

I once responded an offer for a bargain tractor, described in great detail, that was in an out-of-the-way location but would be shipped on receipt of payment. I emailed that I happened to be going there and would bring the cash. Didn't hear back. ....
