I've done production MIG and TIG. Each type has it's place. Depends on what you're doing. I'm not aware of any entry level TIG's though--that's almost an oxymoron. ....

As long as we are here, I'm looking to move up from my 250amp stick welder at home for some basic mig welding on lighter projects up to about 1/4" at max. Having the big box at the store to play with I just don't like moving back and forth I'm looking to buy something small and economical. Any favorites? ....

I bought a used Miller Maxstar 140 off of E-Bay. Small transformer-less box that does DC stick and TIG. It can run 120v or 240v. Not sure how big you want to weld, it can only do 140 amp low duty cycle. Not very fancy, no solenoid gas control or variable TIG, but good for my needs. Check out E-Bay ....

Sure can spend a lot of time on e-bay looking at welders! Not to say ebay isn't a two hour plus time period daily already! I There are some low priced boxes on there, I have a problem with low quality so would rather buy a high end used then to have the econo-box, I've just never had any luck in that dept. I want the gas I guess as I've heard it is more difficult to weld with the center flux wire. ....
