Since hinde-sight is 20-20, knowing what you know know about your purchases;

What compact tractor in the 30 hp range would you buy for the following senerio?
1) finish mowing 2 acres
2) snow removal on an 800' long gravel driveway
3) medium loader useage and driveway maintenance
4) general misc utility odds and ends...
occasional post hole auger rental
occasioanl backhoe rental
5) help with collecting fire wood

Any brand, make, model or attachements would be appreciated.

I am perfectly happy with the setup that I got which is a Kubota B-7800 with loaded R-4's, 60" MMM, LA402 FEL, 60" Befco Boxscraper and 72" Woods landscape rake.
I use the rake to maintain gravel drive in spring and summer. The boxscraper is jack of all trade tool plus is doubles as a counter weight when using FEL.
To answer the questions:
1. I would definitely go with a mid mount mower because two acres is not enough for a 3ph finish mower in my opinion.
2. Depends on how much snow you get. We normally only get between 24 & 36" of snow a year, but every couple of years we get one big 30" snow at one time. I can't justify the cost of a blower for those small amounts. I currently just use FEL on my 200' gravel drive and it doesn't take long at all.
3. The LA402 is speced at 880 pounds which I have found to be adequate for most chores. It is 54" wide bucket.
4. The only downside to the 7800 is no rear hydraulics standard but the cost reflects that as well. I decided I didn't need the rear hydraulics.
5. I've use my 7800 to load my pickup with wood and I was loading it in about 6 inches of snow with no problem.
It's tough to beat the 7800 for the price and performance.
Good luck ....

I did tons of research before purchasing my JD 4310 and the only misstep I made was getting R4 tires. The R4s were unbelievably poor in our clay soil, wet OR dry, so I worked a deal with the dealer to swap 'em for R1s and these work much better.

We have dueling needs, hard work in the woods now and an eventual need to mow. I bought the bigger machine for the heavier work and figure I'll buy a separate riding mower when that time comes. A cheap rider won't cost much more than a MMM and we'll only have a half acre or so to mow anyway. ....

For the little amount of work that you would be putting it through I would suggest that you get the cheapest tractor that you could (used Japanese or new Chinese). For the grass, pick up an inexpensive finishing mower of the type sold by TSC and others. For the driveway pick up a scraper blade same source. Might even be able to get the last 2 items used. Have fun. ....

If you have lots of money and quality and service is high priority go with a JD 4110 hydro but if your budget is limited i'd pick a Jinma 224 with turfs. The Jinma 224 will take more maintence but will take a beating and you don't really mind abusing it cause it was less money. ....

I don't think you can just rent tne back hoe that goes on a tractor,[maybe, but don't think so],the post hole digger don't cost all that much,so you may just buy it.If you plan on mowing your yard with it,you probably want a mid mount and a smaller tractor, four wheel drive if you plan on moving snow, just a blade will be all you need along with the fel that you said you wanted, nothing works to good on gravel without moving gravel, snowblowers,I'm not sure, but dont think they work to good on gravel either,, you will also need a lot of money. I am as pleased and satisfied with my 4410 as the day I brought it home. Perhaps the only thing I would have done differently would have been to buy an MX5 or Land Pride RCR2660 rotary cutter with the package of stuff I bought with the tractor. It has been an EXCELLENT machine and a pleasure to operate. Lot of "tractor therapy" thinkin' time on my green machine! ;o) ....

Harvey, we can do that over the internet or by phone. I've had several people swap for just the cab. Then they did the rest after they found out how good the first time was! I can see you are patient so your kids will have the new tractor to play with. ....

I found the perfect tractor, Lenar. Yes it is a new tractor, yes it is manufactured in China,(as is many compacts), yes it is still unproven. But, for the money I found it to be the best value. Yes it will do all of the things you want it to do!
Ah....remember the simpler times when there were only a few manufacturers to choose from? The world she is a changing, now you have a large selection of makes, models, styles, options and prices to choose from. ....

before you buy a lenar tractor, see what shovels are selling for, and then buy a dozen of which ever one is cheaper. Either way, you will need the shovel. I have had four lenars in under a 6 month period, and none have lasted over 56 hours without a major breakdown. Green, Blue or Orange is the way to go,if you dont go that way, you may end up black and blue from kicking yourself for not buying a name brand, but lenar keeps changing its colors, just because it is blue doesnt mean it runs like a New Holland.

I am another HAPPY owner of a B7800, LA402FEL, with a King Kutter RFM, along with a variety of other toys ( I mean necessary implements ). The tractor has been nothing but a surprise for ease of use, great power to weight ratio, and very weel built. My needs are very close to what you described, I also have a 800' driveway, but also maintain about 1/2 mile of private road. I did the snow plowing last winter with a hydraulic front blade, and was amazed at how easily the tractor would handle even a foot of snow. I grade the road with a box blade when it isn't covered with snow, and it does a great job.

I can't say enough about how well the tractor has performed for everything we have asked it to do. The FEL is great, and well matched to the tractor. ....

Hello, for those of you thinking of buying a tractor, here are some things to consider. I have been an owner of four Lenar Tractors. The reason I have owned four of them is because the tractors were faulty to the point of the dealer having to pick them up and replace them. They all suffered a major breakdown of some sort before the six months dealer warranty expired. The warranty date stayed the same with each new tractor. This went on until the six months expired and the last tractor he droped off to me had faults before I hit fifty hours but the time period had elapsed and he went out of business, but not before he sold me a FailSafe warranty that Lenar approved of for this tractor. Well, what I found out from Lenar when I tried to get the problems fixed with this tractor is that when a dealer sells you the tractor, he is obligated to work on it. Well if he goes out of business, who works on the tractor. The answer is you do unless you are lucky and find a mechanic to work on it. Who pays for it, you do. Can you just take it to another Lenar dealer, maybe, the Lenar dealers are only obligated to work on the tractors that they sell, they are under no obligation whatsoever to work on another Lenar tractor. I was willing to drive about five hours to Indiana to have a Lenar dealer work on this tractor, but he said his insurance would not allow him to. So I am stuck with fixing this myself. The warranty that Lenar promises or advertised is only as good as the guy who sells the tractor. Sure they will send me parts for replacement, but if you are not a mechanic, who will replace them. So when buying a tractor, one should consider, if the tractor breaks down, who will work on it? Is it a tractor that you can take to any shop that works on ag equipment and have it fixed? If that was the case, would I have been willing to drive five hours to Indiana? Are parts easily obtainable, how soon will the tractor suffer a breakdown, what type of service are you going to get from the manufacturer? These are some really important questions that needs to be asked. Lenar said they will give me technical support and parts. So when I told him my engine was leaking oil, the technical support I got was "Yeah, thats a problem you should fix. Tell me what parts you need and I will send them." Well, I am not a mechanic, my dealers out of business, no mechanic wants to look at it, so my best judgment call was, I need a new engine, when can I expect it. No dice, said Berry, (the Lenar rep) I need a mechanic to tell me this. Basicly, he is off the hook until I find a mechanic to look at it and when one of their own dealers wont look at it, what is the chance of any other mechanic looking at it. Would I get this service from New Holland, JD, or Kubota??? Would Berry treat you any different if you bought a Lenar and had the problems that I have had? Buyers out there, beware of what you spend your money on. Service after the sale is what makes the difference between a Lenar and a higher price machine. Ever tractor will break down, some sooner and some later, but when they do go down, do you Berry them or do you take them to a well known dealer and have them fixed. Find out before you put yourselves in debt. Good luck Patrick Webb 1 734 439 0686 14659 Borso Dr. Milan, Mich. 48160 Please call if you have any questions about how Lenar has supported me or how I like my Lenar tractor. ....

Hick 11, My first John Deere 110 tlb went back after breaking down 4 times in around 12 hours. This is what I make a living with. I was so sorry I sold my Kubota n(O) problems. JD made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I took delivery of another 110 tlb after I calmed down, it broke in 3 hrs. When they came out to fix it, I had a feeling that all would be fine from then on, 100 brutal hours so far in the past month and it's been sweet. I am very impressed with what this machine will do, it's like a skid steer, mini escavator, backhoe, loader, all in one. ....

I've been very happy with my TC29 and King Kutter 3ph finish mower. 3-1/2 years old, 520 hours on the tractor; includes occasional backhoe use, brush hogging, box blade, plows and tills gardens in spring and clears driveways in winter. Mows yards and fields all summer.
I for one still like the standard transmission and would buy the same setup again.

I have a TC33D, 7308 loader, 757 hoe, 3pt finish mower, 5ft rake, wt box and this thing just gets better everyday. The tractor is two years old with 330 hrs the only problem I had was the battery went bad and replaced under warranty. I would definitely buy again. My situation is very similar to yours and this set up has more than met my needs. I also have a post hole digger from TSC which also worked great. ....

In early June '04 I purchased the NH TZ24DA with 60"MMM. This is a new tractor for NH, just released this year. Normally, I wouldn't recommend buying a new model, but I felt good about the quality of the product, the price, along with the NH dealer. I mow a 2 acre lawn, where I live, and have another 3 acres which I mowed for the first time a couple of weeks ago(previouly been bushhogged). The mower does an excellent job, my yard looks better than ever before. This tractor is a 24HP 3 cylinder diesel, 4x4, power steering, HST, cat 1 3PH, including MMM, and I paid $10,500 out the door. So far I am very pleased with my choice.
My dream was to have a NH TC29, however, it maybe more tractor than I need, and with a kid in college, the additional $5K - 6K was more that I could justify. Maybe in a few years. I have posted pictures of the tractor, along with my other love. ....

I've got a TC33D HST w/7308 FEL, ballast box, rake, front forks, 5' hog and a 7' RFM. My senerio here in Western PA on 32 acres is about like yours.

I am VERY happy with my machine and at 260 hrs. it has brought me nothing but smiles! This machine has done everything I've asked of it and more.

Do differently....with an annual snowfall here high atop the Laurel Highlands of just around 300 inches, I'm lookin' for a good snow blower to mount on her!

I have a Kioti LK3054,FEL,and 72inch rear mower if I had it to do over I would buy a B7800 Kubota. This LK3054 has been broke down a lot and the Kubota I had was 13 years old with nearly a 1000hrs and no problems in that time. ....
