I just took a quick look at the TractorPoint classifieds, and I noticed that I see quite a few BX's and 2210's for sale. But I don't notice many of the next step up like the B7500, Deere 41XX, or NH TC24 25 's, there used to be more action in these models before the subs came in.

I was wondering if the buyers of the sub compact units might be following a pattern.

1) Why did you buy it? Mowing earth moving....?
2) How much property ?
3) Are you getting a bigger or smaller machine or moving to a condo.....?
4) Are you switching to the same size by another manufacturer ?

Any other wisdom from theis buying experience...??

My first tractor was a Cub 154 Lo Boy given to me by my father as a basket case. I used it for 10 years for mowing but it did not have much of any other use except to pull the wagon. I traded it for a Kubota L245 with an L1200 loader and L590 RFM. HUGE improvement in capability but the tractor was still just too small and it was a really cramped ride for me and my 250 lbs. I across a deal I could not refuse on my current 4410. My buddy handled the sale and had given me $3000 trade in on the Cub 154 and $4,000 on the L245. So I jumped on the 4410. All the tractor I will EVER need unless I take to farmin' and I do a little of that too with it.

1. I obtained all of these tractors for general property maintenance which includes a variety of tasks but mostly mowing.

2. I live on about 26 acres.

3. I got a bigger machine each time.

4. I switch to the Deere because of the good deal I got but even more so from my experience as to how these tractors held up to use with the soldiers in the 101st Airborne. As well as the professional responses John Deere gave us with reguards toward training, parts, and logistic support. ....

I got mine because I had to complete trenching for a new electrical service before winter and the tractor was sized to the hoe I needed to dig the trench. It ends being too large to good for finish mowing and we keep a riding mower going. It's also really too heavy to trailer with a highway 1/2-ton, which limits its use at our camp about 10 miles away.

If it came to it I might want to trade down but I've gotten used to doing jobs other than mowing that take some size and power so I'd probably just find another beater of a riding mower. Besides when growing up I always wanted to play with the big boys and a lot of the power talk around here feeds that inclination.

I wonder if some people trade up because they moved to the country and started out thinking that finish mowing was the main job. A sub may seem like a mower plus idea and also a budget compromise. I imagine there's lots of family negotiation that happens. Maybe work other than mowing tends to expand and then the plus doesn't seem quite plus enough. Once you've gone for the budget once it probably is a little easier to go for a trade up budget. ....

Dennis, just this past year at least three people moved up to the BX22 from the 2200. I have several people that have the 22's and they talk that they would like to swap every couple of years with 200 to 300 hours on there units. The price of these units propably get the bulk of the people started into compact tractor land and the uses get them thinking bigger is better. ....
