The 1843SD is a 3 cyl. 23 hp, PTO 19 hp. I've had it for about three months and have used it for bushogging and pulling some logs off my land. It has performed very well so far. Runs like a top. Got my filters at NAPA.

I think some of the Ford 13, 15, & 1710 series tractors used Shibaura engines. Your engine could be the same as that used in Ford 1510's. According to my Ford repair manual, the engine is identified by the code 'K773' stamped into the side of the cylinder block.

If true, then you could use New Holland dealers (pricy as they are) as sources of filters, engine parts etc. ....

Just remembered that there was a post last summer here or tractorbynet. The post was a warning to various Ford compact owners regarding WIX filters. As I remember, the poster said that the WIX filters which cross-referenced for his Ford mounted OK but were not the same as the New Holland filters.

So, if your engine is one that was used in a Ford, it might be worth looking the thread up in the archives. I'm not sure how a person could tell if the differences noted amount to a hill of beans. However, if the WIX cross-reference does produce a somewhat different filter than the dealer item, it's probably work knowing. ....

Mike: I learned that Champion makes the Mobil 1 filter. They also make the Luber-finer, an industrial filter; Call them at (800) 882-0890.

Please let me know if they can help you. ....
