I have a chance to purchase a SH2643, sn:100143, 26 hp.

Can anyone give me an idea how old this machine might be? It has been refurbished and is only showing 5 hrs on the hour meter. The owner is asking $7,200.

Is this a good deal, or should I keep shopping?

Thanks

Sorry, I don't know much about this model but I'll offer up a few comments you probably don't want to read.

For one thing I sure wouldn't trust the hour meter.

For another thing, "Refurbished" means a LOT of different things to different people. It could mean nothing more than a pressure washing and checking the air pressure in the tires or they could have checked all systems and replaced some minor parts. Who the heck knows? If you get this tractor you should insist on a written report of some kind of what they did to refurbish it.

Has this tractor ever had a stateside owner? You might ask and see if you can talk to the previous owner if there was one. ....

Out of curiosity I did a little googling on the SD2643. I found that it's 31 hp, not 26. It's supposed to be similar to the Ford NH 1910. The prices I found ranged from $3k-6k so the price may be a little high depending on what all comes with it. ....

Still curious. Assuming the SD2643 is the same as the Ford 1910 (Ford was made by Shibaura) it had 31 gross engine hp and 24 pto hp. The Ford 1910 was made from 1983-1989 and cost around $9800 brand new. According to machinerylink.com, a 1986 Ford 1910 4WD is worth $7030 in premium (perfect) condition, $6333 in good condition, and $5642 in average condition. Given these prices I think your price is a little high. Personally, I'd rather have the Ford 1910 - that way you could get parts and support at a Ford-NH dealer. ....

Would this be your first tractor? What part of the country are you in?
I would think that in this price range you could buy a clean
one owner machine that you know the history of.
good luck. ....

Thank you for your answers.
Yes this would be a first tractor. The person who is selling it now bought it from an auction. He has no other history on it. He doesn't even know what year it is.
I was wondering if anyone could tell the year by the serial number?

Check out the nortrac tractors made in china, you can buy a new one 25h.p. 4wd for 8,ooo. Comes with a 6 months parts and labor warrenty, sold by northern tool,a company thats been in business for years. I have one,now got 173 hrs on it,in a little over a year and am satisfied. I do not work for northern. They sell packages,[loaders, hoes, etc.], HI grinder. Richard ....

If it is a refurbished one from an auction with low hours. I would stay away from it. It is a Viet Nam reconditioned tractor that probably was returned because it had problems & taken to the auction to dispose of rather than to repair it. Some one is trying to make a buck on it & probably will not be able to support it after you purchase it. I receive alot of parts inquires on these "reconditioned" tractors. You are better off buying a high quality tractor from a reputable dealer. Personally I'd take a high quality Japanese tractor over a new Chinese tractor any day. For info on say the attached link. ....

ISH,well you might be right and then you might be wrong, thats the thing about a used tractor. That was my choices, used yanmore from a company I never heard of before or a new chinese one from a company I had. Parts will never be a issue with the chinese one, dealer support will not be an issue either, and the company has been in bussiness for years and has their name on it.Used anything scares me a little cause you just never know, and like you said, reconditioned might mean anything,I mean was you there when it was"reconditioned". Now having said that,my neighbor has a yanmor,he has been running it rough for about three tears now,I don't think hes put all that many hrs.,but the hrs he has put on it have been rough ones, and as far as I know he has only had to replace water pump and a few other little things. So I guess he didn't get burned. Richard ....

I hope for your sake that you are correct. I ordered a $3000 item from Northern Hydraulics 4 years ago. When I needed a part for it, I was informed that they didn't supply parts for it any more. When I got in touch with the distributer , they told me the part was no longer available. There were alot of Rhino tractors (Chinese) sold in the US . When the Alamo group, which was the US distributer, decided they were not getting a good enough return , they dropped out of the tractor business. Try getting parts for a Rhino. I've heard this story over & over. Some company is selling a tractor. They have a million dollar parts inventory, but when they go broke or decide to get out of the business that million dollar isn't worth anything. ....

I didn't know that about the rhino tractor. I don't think this will be the case with this jinma though, but who really knows for sure. They ,northern, have been selling them for 5 or 6 years now,as well as other dealers, they are just now catching on I believe, but if we for instance, went to war in one way or another with china, who knows right? Course if we really went to a shooting war with china, tractors, who cares. Richard ....

im also looking at these tractors as im on fixed income(disabled) i saw a unit yesterday close to what you describe and little less dollars. right next to it was ford 4000 series (big machine) with a nice set of large discs and it was 800 less money.

both machines were very clean and functioned well but im leaning toward the big tractor even though its overkill on my little place.

as our friend here said recondition can mean lots of different things.

an hour meter is kinda like the ex wife. cant trust her no more if we ever could?

please let me know what you end of with. and best of luck to you. regards , John ....

Don't buy a shibaura 2643 nor the Ford 1910, spares are very expensive if they are available. I would go for a Ford 4000 if I could afford it.

Cheers
