Does anyone out there know what the compression should be for a SU1500 Shibaura?

Still haven't found the numbers? Ouch. This might be a dumb idea but I'll throw it out there. Since Shibaura makes New Holland tractors you might find a current New Holland model that has similar horsepower and number of cylinders and then ask a friendly dealer what the compression should be on that model. It would probably be in the ballpark. You could also call around to some experienced diesel mechanics and see what their estimated numbers might be. I'll bet the numbers all come out fairly close to each other. ....

I may have to do that.
Can't believe it is that hard to find info on a tractor.

Compression for any diesel is high, high enough to well, cause it to diesel!! LOL
It doesn't matter who made it or what size it is really, it will (as a rule of thumb) have between 18:1 and 20:1 compression if it is an 'indirect injection' diesel engine. Altitude aside, and assuming an atmospheric pressure of 14.7 psi as it is about sea level, then the engines compression of 18 -20 times 14.7 psi would mean compression should be ~265 - 300 psi.
From memory I think the lower limit for ignition is about 12:1 so at sea level that would be about 175 psi, but you sure wouldn't have much power at that point.
Best of luck. ....
