I bought a 32 hp grey market Mitsubishi tractor. I live in central florida and am having temp. trouble.
I am going to change the fluid and make sure it is 50% water & 50% antifreeze. Is this a good blend?
I have heard that I can run it with out a thermastat. I do not feel right about that. Any thoughts?
Should I have pressure in the radiator? When I open it to check the coolant I feel no pressure even when it is warmed up.I wounder if I should try another cap?

If you are having temperature trouble and no pressure in the rad I might suspect a stuck thermostat or bad pump. Replace and test it.
I would not recommend running the diesel too cold with out a thermostat. You can carbon up everthing. ....

Don, we need to know more about the tractor. Is it a MFWD unit, and when was it built? The Mitsubishi's from the early 90's have long histories of overheating troubles. The cap may be the simple fix, it is worth the money to try it. But I must say that you may have a water pump issue, and that is a labor intense job, if you can locate a pump. You may be able to do so through your Case or MTD/Cub Cadet dealers. Also, check for water or coolant in your oil, the head gasket may be leaking or you may have a crack in the head or block. ....

The tractor is an early 80's model D2650FD.
Slow as a rabbit but strong like bull.
The only time it is getting hot is when I use the tiller. Harrows ok.
I have it on property that is 3.5 hrs away(Deer Club)....
I am going to try to get it home soon. I think we need to look at another Pres. Gas prices very high when towing. Dept. of energy falling down on job. ....

I don't think taking out the thermostat will help with over-heating and may make it worse. Clogged system, bad cap or bad thermostat is a good guess and usually easy fixes--same with worn or loose fan belt. I'd just do some of these things on general principal. Improper valve clearances also can cause over-heating and aren't too bad to check. 50-50 coolant mixtures give the lowest freezing points and decent heat transfer rates.
Checking for coolant in the oil and looking for bubbles in the coolant are pretty good checks for things like bad head gaskets. Low oil pressure can cause over-heating but that idea might be overly alarmist. If the pump is pumping you can see the coolant flow by looking trough the fill hole (the thermostat has to be open). It's a little tough to distinguish between normal and low flow though. Quite a few tractors just over-heat during prolonged heavy work on hot days so all the trouble shooting may be for naught. ....

Yes, the early 80's Mitsubishi's had over heating problems also. Generally caused by the radiator being undersized. If this isn't a new problem, but one that has been from the beginning of your ownership, then you may benefit from looking into the later model radiators - these have more cooling capacity and may be a simple bolt-in replacement. As I stated earlier, a good Case or Cub Cadet dealer may be willing to help you sort things out. ....
