I need to know what kind of oil I use in my Mitsubishi D1500FW for the hydralics? I had a 1985 Ford tractor model 1910 that I used hysralic oil in but I have a Terramite backhoe that says to use 10W30 in that hydralic oil will tear it up. I don't have a manual for my little tractor and just replaced the clutch and lost some of the oil and just need to refill. Also does it go in the transmission case and supply oil to the trans. rearend and the hydralics all.

It's not clear to me if the hoe has it's own hydraulics or uses the tractor system. I also don't know if the transmission and hydraulic oil are separate. Most compacts use a common reservoir for the TX/DIFF and hydraulics.
I do know that it's real hard to second-guess a manual--especially since it says not to use hydraulic oil. To some extent oil is oil but usually you want somewhat different properties for engine and hydraulic use that are obtained from different additive packages but some old farm tractor hydraulics did work from gear oil so who knows?
Sometimes a manual says to do something specific when what actually is meant is that the specific will work but so will most everything else. I do remember my first motorcycle manual said to use mineral oil in the front shocks so I dutifully went to a drug store and bought mineral oil. I guess it worked OK but it didn't take long for somebody to tell me 'No no just use 10W-30' that's what they really mean.
There may be an issue here. Some seal compositions swell or deteriorate in the presence of some additives. Since the manual says don't use hydraulic oil, I wouldn't.

I was watching the dealer down the street install a new Ameriquip back hoe on a Kubota 7800 last month.
The manual said it needed 4.5 gallons of 10-30 motor oil.
He just shrugged his shoulders and poured it full of what he had: JD Hygaurd. ....

In general you do not want a surfactant oil in the hydraulic system. these oils will absorb water over time and cause corrosion in the system.
JD hydaulic oil is basicly 10-30 with out the surfactant. You need to read carefully and determine if the surfactant is required. 30 weight oil is not necessarily an automotive oil with surfactant. ....

We should hasten to add that tractor hydraulic fluid has its own special set of additives, to accommodate wet brakes and such, and is different from motor oil in that respect. ....

Ah yes, seems like I may have been suckered by a manual again. It must be a nightmare to write decent manuals. There's always people like me who hear 10W-30 and think 'engine oil.' It's ironic since I use multi-season hydraulic oil and 10W-30 is probably exactly what I have.
I can't figure out why a manufacturer would design a hydraulic system and spec engine oil for it either unless it's some sort of seal composition issue. Since the manual does say not to use hydraulic oil, I'd be careful with this one. Does the manual mean don't use straight weight oil or jack oil but universal TX/Hydraulic oil is fine in any weight but multi-season is better. Don't know. Writing manuals must be a nightmare.

The tag on my Terramite endloader,backhoe says not to use hydralic oil or it will have premature failure. It also give a spec. for a motor oil and I called one of the local rental places that rent out the machines and he told me they use motor oil. ....
