I am thinking of getting a front end loader for my dad's Long 360. It is a 2wd with power steering. It has remote hydralics out the back. I have a couple of questions: Are loaders a "universal" fit? Would it use the existing hydralic connections? I have seen loaders advertised for under $2000. How does that sound?

Loaders are not a universal fit. A loader may work on many tractors, but it requires a different mounting kit for different applications. $2000 sounds cheap for a new loader. A used loader can cost from nothing up depending on what it is. If your tractor has dual hydraulics you can use the tractors control valve. If it has single remotes you will need another valve, but will use the tractors hydraulics. I have a new loader available that fits your tractor. I'm allowing a 10% discount. I've never seen a new loader for 2 grand. Most are around $3000. (and up)I'd advise you to get the mounting kit that fits your particular tractor. Mostloader manufacturers and dealers can get a kit to fit their loader to a particular tractor. There used to be very universal mount loaders made for the old Agtractors. One size fitted them all! The Farm Hand loader was one of these. But I am not aware of such a universal kit for compacts. It sounds like you have enough hydraulics to make it work. Loaders can be powered by several different ways of tapping into the tractor hydraulics, or withan accessory pump. It is done every day and is cheap and easy. 2wd is fine, but you will need to mount a heavy implement on the rear tobalance everything out and keep your traction. Box blades with weights are good. The best news is that you already have the one thing that is very importantand is nearly impossible to add aftermarket - POWER STEERING! You won't believehow important this is until you use a loader tractor with turf tires and no power steering! Roger L. ....
