I have a 1979 Long 360 with less than 1500 hrs. Last year the clutch was slipping, but I adjusted it out. Did good until now. Whenever I let out of the clutch(with or without the PTO engaged)I feel a slight jerking, but smoothes out with the clutch pedal all the way out. I'm hoping it's not the clutch or something that I will have to disassemble the tractor to fix. Any ideas????

I don't know Chinese tractors but assuming yours has a simple, direct, manual transmission, you might explore whether the jerking is in the clutch or elsewhere.

If you drive over short hills with the clutch fully engaged, as the tractor climbs and descends, if the source is in the drivetrain, you'll feel the jerking as the drivetrain is loaded and unloaded. If not, that would point to the clutch. ....

Samiam,

The symptoms you describe seem to suggest an excessive amount of play in your driveline.......somewhere.

A simple way to test the clutch is to put your loader bucket against an immovable object, such as a concrete pad, or against a tree stump. Slowly let the clutch out while in first gear and with the engine at idle. If the tractor stalls, it's likely that your clutch is OK.

If your clutch checks out OK, shut off the tractor while on level ground and then put it in first gear. Get off the tractor and attempt to move it, by hand, by pushing and pulling on one of the rear wheels.

If you notice that the rear wheel turns quite far before stopping, you may have an issue with too much backlash in the gears.......transmission, rear end, or both.

A situation similar to the symptoms you describe will also occur when a U-joint in a driveline is going out, though I doubt this to be the case with a tractor.

Joel ....

Samiam,

I discussed your situation with a farmer-friend (Jay) last night. He seems to believe that your tractor is acting a whole lot like his 1256 did, before they got it repaired.

Jay seems to think that you may have a broken clutch spring. You can probably determine if this is the case by simply removing an inspection plate below the clutch housing. If you see pieces of broken springs laying in the bottom of the clutch housing, you'll have your answer.

Unfortunately, the only way to replace a clutch is to split the tractor.

Hope this helps.

Joel ....

Thanks to all you guys who have responded!!!! I pulled the side plate off & sound no pieces of springs or metal. I tried the ideas of rocking the tractor with it in gear. Appears OK. I adjusted the clutch out a little to see if it would help. Now it's sitting in the middle of a field, broke. I'm pretty sure it is the clutch. Looks like I'll be spending some time taking it apart. Thanks again for all your help?????? ....

Hello my name is Nathan and i work for LongParts.com. Your tractor is made in Brasov Romania, A couple of things could be happening 1: you could have a broken spring on the pressure plate 2: the alignment could be off on the discs and the pressure plate both of which you would have to split the tractor to repair or replace ....
